On Sunday 3 September, I attended the Kalamunda Garden Festival held at Stirk Park. This festival is held on the first Sunday of each season, so we attended the Spring festival.
It was great! So many different stalls selling all things to do with gardens and gardening - some rare plants, pot plant holders made from recycled scrap metal, different pot planters made from clay, wind chimes made from old teaspoons and teapots. There was a stall giving information about bees and how to attract them. Music was supplied by the Murphy Brothers which was excellent as well. There were plenty toilets, so no queuing. The ground was quite muddy in parts and the organisers supplied saw dust/wood chips to made it easier to get around. The mud did not bother me, but I did wear new shoes, next I go in muddy season I wear my gum boots though.
It was a great day out, the stall holders all very friendly and full of helpful advice on plants, recycling etc. Traffic movement around the park was not bad either, with many people parking a distance away and walking to the park...
Read moreStirk park, located next to the entrance to the city of Kalamunda is a lovely open park, with natural creeks, wide grass areas, public barbeques, a shallow but gorgeous lake often covered with ducks and dozens of stunning trees dotted along the paths and across the park. This park is great for picnics, dates, gatherings or a quiet walk. This park is also good for younger children with a range of play equipment on Elizabeth Street! The toilets are quite a trek from the play ground but they are well serviced and clean. Parking is also quite limited but if you don't mind a short walk through the town it's alright. Plenty of bins and seating and the grass is well maintained and soft so is ideal for a picnic. There is also a fully functional entertainment space that can be rented through the city of Kalamunda. Over all this is a very calm and historic park with strong connections and an almost stubborn beauty within the ever changing and...
Read moreOnce again in a group situation, out for an evening under the stars. We were segregated like cattle into a fenced area to unfortunately watch a cover band do it's renditions of the Beatles. Then unfortunately for the crowd after they had finished their set, they came back on with a couple of female singers and pretended to do justice to a tribute to ABBA. Oh my God, what a disaster. I'm only glad I didn't have to pay the $25 for entry to this abysmal performance. As for doing a review of this park, can't really do it justice as we arrived in the dark and left in the dark. So not really seeing the whole place it would be unfair to the kalamunda shire to reflect on what was not seen. I'm quite sure that this place is a shining light for the people...
