My partner and I just travelled onboard 707 Operations (aka Slow Rail Journeys) "The Grainlander" to Wycheproof and Sea Lake this weekend. This was our first time travelling on a Slow Rail Journey of this length and scale.
The whole experience was run to a world class standard of travel. All staff operating these trains are volunteers, and they are all so helpful and professional in what they do. These trips include all meals cooked and served onboard the train (the quality of the food is exceptional and delicious), side tours to local attractions, such as silo art tours, paddleboat rides, hotel dining, etc. As ours was in the wheat belt Mallee region, our side tours were to the silo art and Lake Tyrell in Sea Lake.
The team also communicates every day of the tour via text messages, keeping guests in the loop about arrival and departure times, side tour information, etc.
A variety of different accommodation options are available onboard the train, depending on your level of comfort and needs. Showers and toilets are also located in the carriages, either in the cabin, or at the end of the carriage.
Overall just a brilliant experience if you love train travel and exploring regional Victoria.
We will definitely be back on one of their tours again. Highly...
