We've been regulars here for many years - has been a great spot pre/post concerts, theatre, sport etc - but sadly too many issues that will drive us elsewhere.
Can't stand the 'digital' menu but I guess that's where things are going - at least we can order from the table I guess.
The food isn't great but not bad either. Standard pub food.
Not cheap for what you get - $75-80 for a very average bottle of wine. But that's not unique to this place, sadly.
It's the service that really let's this place down. On our last four or so visits, almost every member of staff has been grumpy/curt. A special mention for the older gentleman, maybe foreign accent, who always seems to be in the outside bar. Completely lacking in any customer or social skills. Last night was a particular stand out, as I stood alone at the bar for a good 75 seconds whilst he chatted with another member of staff, completely ignoring me. Sorry to have been an inconvenience. Based on several recent visits may I suggest that a career in the service industry is not for you sir.
I should also mention the mice running around. Didn't bother us but a couple next to us were freaking out and left - we've watched several mice running around the tables on several occasions here.
A final note - an almost empty bar last night (Thursday) yet the music was pumping out at a ridiculous level - our party of seven could not hear each other. Impossible to talk. Almost everyone outside (not many) was watching the footy but no staff seemed to recognise this - maybe turn the music off/down and put the TV volume up a tad ? Even when we moved inside we could barely hear the TV. Perhaps a degree of awareness would help.
Great location but I think we'll find somewhere else. Transport is a much better option - and...
Read moreI have been many times but never really enthused about the experience. I drink a lot of craft beer and am familiar with what’s going on. They charge more than usual for some of the beers and I always find their list a bit disappointing, although there are quite often some great gems on tap. But it’s the food that disappoints me. I had the cheese burger last night and it was cold and over cooked (dry). It was like it was sitting out for a while before making its way to us. We waited 30 minutes for it so maybe it was a mix up. My sister enjoyed her fried chicken burger though. The other frustrating aspect was when a member of staff came up to us after ordering and asking if we had ordered a pizza and chips on the number we had. I said no and that we had just ordered burgers. She kept quizzing me about whether it was on this specific number and i said yes numerous times but it was as though I was being accused of something. If she had been polite and apologised for the confusion it would be fine, but I found it really odd that she just came up and posed all this questions and then just walked off without an explanation. The other waitress was really friendly and efficient when I asked for sauce but overall it was quite disappointing. Update - 24/12/21, this place is getting worse. Today waited 15 minutes for orange juice for the children and they forgot our food order after 40 minutes of waiting. No one seems to want to work there. Indifferent staff and a real stretch to get an apology for completely...
Read moreHello Beer Deluxe Federation Square.
This is kind of a mixed review unfortunately.
I’ll start with the good I’m around about 100% sure that his name is Brenton, the fellow with the tattoos, the manager with all the art on himself. I’ve worked in hospitality for around 35+ years and this gentleman who served myself and my family on Friday has customer service beyond his years I’ve been here on multiple occasions and he has always recognised myself and or other family members and treats us with the so much respect and quality service, and by service I mean I haven’t found anywhere else that I frequent to have such a manor like he does.
His service alone and knowledge of beer and food that’s on the menu is merely just a conversation point for the man, please I hope he constantly gets some form of recognition for his service.
Now unlike the service I find the food very underwhelming I miss the pizzas and love the burgers still but it’s the price for everything I’ve noticed that’s changed a lot here. I don’t mind paying for quality of food. But as an example when I’m $30 for a chicken Parma and $18 for a pint of core range beer something just doesn’t sound right to me there.
We will keep coming back because even though the food is overpriced it’s just good to know people are respected with the kind of customer service Brenton so freely has conducted each and every time...
