The lamb is just awesome. I make a point to stop by every time I'm in the area and when ever I can. I read a review that complained about bad service and one about fatty lamb. Fatty lamb that's what makes it tasty - well you can't slow grill any meat without fat... it will dry out... even the traditional Kebabs have fat in them you just don't see it because its been minced. The service - You walk in there, you greet as you would want to be greeted, you get one back, you order what you want and you will be served politely and with respect. Nothing to it, people should try it sometimes. Also if you ask stupid questions you get stupid answers, if a place doesn't have written in big writing Halal on the outside its probably not and if it's got a word like "Lamb" or "Steak" in the name well it probably doesn't have vegetarian options, so don't go in there asking and when you get an answer you don't like write a bad review on google. Also if you say that you went in there at midnight on Friday or Saturday night and got bad service well it might have something to do with the amount of alcohol you have in your system added to by another hundred an fifty people of same caliber that gave the people behind the counter...
Read moreThe employees and venue were great but unfortunately the mixed HSP I ordered was the worst I’ve ever had. The chicken is literally just roasted chicken, I had a few bites where I had little bits of chicken cartilage in it and it was absolutely horrible. I’ve never experienced cartilage in any of my HSP’s over the last 10 years.
The lamb was ok, it was a little Bit tasteless and very over cooked but edible, I would recommend staying away from the chicken here because it’s just roast chicken, does not taste or look like proper kebab shop Chicken at all. It’s mushy, no flavour and obviously the quality of the chicken is so poor where bits of cartilage are found in it.
The reviews on this place are decent which I assume are for the souvlakis and other dishes but at least for a HSP, I would rate it 1/10.
For 19.50$ it’s honestly laughable. Sorry guys but you need to do better if you’re charging almost 20$ for a regular sized HSP with low...
Read moreThis restaurant is or was once owned in kind by That Greek Tavern. Having the seasoning and superior knowledge of cooking method, I never thought I would see the day of me saying this despite the sovlaki now being priced at $19 at the time of this review. The meat was old, I could taste it. The weight was light on. What ever happened to just ordering a sovlaki? The weight in the sovlaki is endemic of the problem which has lead to the eventuation and evolution of the current HSP market. At the $19 pricing point for the weight that this sovlaki delivers undoubtedly, it should be representative of a consistent gold standard quality.
This is a reminder to myself to walk over to Lambs on Commercial where they have same recipe but have not yet failed Chapel St. Lambs on Brunswick is clearly taking the lead as the heavy in the current sovlaki game. Fitzroy could be the future of food...
