My girlfriend and I went there for dinner and drinks. Radio Mexico is a place I really liked in the past and we were excited for the night. We ordered two mojitos to start and when they arrived mine just tasted like rum and soda water, the other you could clearly taste had no rum whatsoever. I felt like the bartender may have accidentally poured two shots into one glass. It can happen - honest mistake. More than that, there was no mint, and just one whole piece of lime floating about. It hadn't been mashed like it should when making a cocktail (that's why these drinks take so long to make and hence the price). I was debating whether to just drink them and not cause a fuss but they were undrinkable. I called the waitress over to explain and she takes the drinks to the bartender and I can see them giggling and looking our way. The bar tender starts to sample the drinks... He then takes the drinks and starts adding bits and pieces to the them, continuing to sample them and "fix" them, rather than starting again. I didn't want to get up so my partner goes over and politely asks that the drinks are made fresh (which is not an unreasonable request). In the background I can see the bartender mashing and stirring and I knew it would be a better cocktail. They arrive and it wasn't the best mojito I've had but it was nice nevertheless - we were happy. A few minutes later a waitress comes by and and asks "is that better for you?" In a strange, smirky manner. I didn't click at that time, so I responded in a happy and positive manner, "yeah they taste great". Under her breathe I hear her mutter, "well he made them the same". I confronted her on the remark (to which she was shocked that I heard). She then repeated loudly, "he made them the same!", as if to imply that there was nothing wrong with the drinks in the first place. I cannot express the outrage I felt being disrespected in such a manner. At this point we were actually starving but decided that we'd rather not eat here (and tolerate such attitude). We got up and canceled the food order and tried to explain to the manager that we were leaving because of this waitress. Rather than seek clarification from us, she instead asked the waitress what had happened. Clearly customer service isn't a priority which was even more disappointing. I have only ever had good experiences prior, but I will...
Read moreIf you are visiting this Restaurant in the middle ( or either side) of Melbourne’s Cold Winter season; it’s great to know that you can sit inside or outside with the option of complimentary blankets to wrap around you, which were great whilst sitting outside under cover this time. After noticing some others sitting outside with blankets & asking about them, I was told to go & get them myself. Noticing an amazing choice of ‘Chilli Hot Chocolate’ $10.00, I imagined the chilli warming up my throat with the dark chocolate at the same time, gliding down my throat… perfect in Winter! Notice: You have no choice of Milk- only Animal F/C Milk: No Soy/Almond or Oat Milk offered. Upon receiving the Chilli Dark Chocolate hot drink, I was really disappointed that there was ‘No Chilli’ flavour at all…. even as stated re the ‘sprinkle on top of chilli’. It would have been ideal to have the chilli infused through the milk & dark chocolate- for a slight ‘kick of warmth’. Just no Chilli flavour at all. Therefore, I would say that they need to improve their ‘Recipe’. I mentioned to a staff member, that I could not taste any Chilli,… he didn’t offer any solutions & didn’t care. After this, I devoured the ‘Taco-No-Taco’ $25.00 -with pulled Lamb. It was a small serving, however, quality ingredients & for once ‘no Rice’ at all, which is great if you are cutting down on ‘Carbs’. The lamb in the ‘Taco-No-Taco’ was only ‘just warm’- it needed to be served hotter. Overall, a cute place to eat Mexican, with a warm fire if you can get a booking inside. I will return in future, but not having a ‘Soy Milk’ option will now prevent me from ordering the Hot Chocolate. As I don’t drink Coffee, I’m not sure ‘what other hot drink’ I would be able to order re non alcoholic. Asked about ‘Mulled Red Wine’ but they don’t have any. Enjoy this Restaurant , if you’re lucky to find a park around St.Kilda- either paid or unpaid parking. Allow some ‘extra time’ for this. Toilets need ‘Updating’ & cleaning a...
Read moreWe recently dined at Radio Mexico and felt the need to review our experience to help others possibly make better decisions as there are lots of other restaurants in the area.
We started with a pair of the most underwhelming margaritas we've ever had. As basic as can be for $20 a pair. For $20 you'd expect a nice presentation, good taqilia, maybe a nice frozen treat? This was was amature hour at its finest.
We had a couple of tacos each, a Baja and a Barbacoa (Lamb). The Baja was ok. There wasn't much to the taco and it wasn't very inspiring, but it wasn't off-putting in any way. The lamb was pretty dry and when held up there was liquid falling out of the taco. It was a 2/5, mostly for the effort, same could be said for the Baja taco. Lastly we split a "Pork Belly Al Pastor" which was overcooked and dry. You could sense a theme here with the overcooked "slow cooked" meats.
The server came to ask us how every was afterwards and we said it was "ok" she then said "oh it was good?" Which wasn't what we had said.
To be honest your drinks are over priced for the value. We would absolutely spend the same or more for a better drink. Which is funny because you had 2 or 3 bartenders behind the bar and a couple of servers sitting at the bar...
The food was bland, overcooked and felt like someone's idea of Mexican food, someone who's never been to Mexico.
To top it off the server brought the credit card terminal to us and said "it prompts you for a tip but you can increase or decrease the amount". Nice try guys, if you want a tip you're going to have to put a lot more effort in in every aspect of your restaurant. From the kitchen to the bar to the server you all failed to deliver here.
You get two stars because you're trying. You all seem just...
