I hoped to perform my compositions for them at the upstairs place with the piano, free of charge. I visited earlier this week, to see if it was possible, the staff say to come back on Thursday, that it would be open then. So I returned (on Thursday) at about 3:00pm or so, the staff said it would be open at 5:00pm, and that she would ask the other manager if it would be ok for me to try the piano, so I went home again and then came back around 5:00. Downstairs, I purchased an orange juice (I purchased it not because I very much wanted orange juice, but I tried to support local business, and hoped that the hope given me would not be a false hope), and so then asked the staff if I could play the handwritten scores I brought with me, and they said no - that it was not open for me. In about 2 years, this is the second time I tried to approach them about performing my work for them (after a similar thing happened the first time, I decided not to return, but recently reconsidered), and voluntarily, not for employment. Because actually, some years earlier a man from CATT (Crisis Assessment and Treatment Team) came to my home, uninvited, and at one point, after looking at my resume, he forbade me from seeking employment ("wealth for toil"). The man from CATT told me that he would return to me when I was ready to seek employment. It was a hypocrisy, because he was being paid to tell me not to get a job. So for many years I have been unemployed, because I was obedient to the man from CATT (who visited my home several times, uninvited), these are seemingly an organisation working for Alfred Health (they were coming to my home, because I had been in the Psychiatric Ward at Alfred Hospital, following a false accusation against me that Victoria Police took to be true). Anyway, I don't plan to return to this unwelcoming Hotel Esplanade They have added to my burdens, when I tried to give my music away for free (I studied piano and composition at University of Melbourne years earlier). [EDIT: At the time of this edit, Management of Esplanade Hotel seemed to reply to most reviews, but made a point of skipping this one, after it's initial posting - they responded to newer ones, and older ones too - probably they just don't like Australian Composers!]

I recently had an amazing experience at The Espy in St Kilda. This historic hotel turned multi-level hub of bars and restaurants was a true delight. The highlight for me was the Louey's tomato and burrata pizza, bursting with flavour. The staff's thoughtful gesture of taking us to "The Ghost" baf when the kitchen closed added an extra touch to the evening. One standout was the L'Absinthe, a champagne cocktail that artfully combined the delicate notes of pear and sparkling wine with the intriguing herbal accents of anise and basil. Even though coffee wasn't on the menu, the staff went above and beyond to accommodate my request, which truly added to the magical experience. The breathtaking view of St Kilda's beach from The Espy was delightful. My absolute favourite part was undoubtedly the Ghost bar, which exuded a unique and captivating ambiance. Overall, I can confidently rate my visit a perfect 5/5. The combination of delectable food, exceptional service, and an unforgettable atmosphere, especially the Ghost bar, made it a memorable and extraordinary outing.

A wonderful choice for our work EOFY luncheon that rolled into cocktails and then drinks downstairs. The food was served banquet style, fresh, delicious and plenty of it, some was left over. We started with fortune cookies for a laugh. Starters began with plump fresh oysters in a delicious vinaigrette. You know it's good when people drink it from the shell rather than leave it. Then came raw kingfish slices drizzled with with good amount of tahini sauce drizzled with chilli oil. Then baby cucumber salad with another delicious tahini sauce. A vegan Sat beside me and ample, delicious looking dishes kept arriving made especially for his dietary requirements. I was full from just starters! Next came spicy fried chicken ribs (plump with meat), fried eggplant fingers (delicious), beef dish and steamed rice. We finished off with a special order of sticky date pudding and cocktails. Lunch finished at 5pm it was so good, but we stayed on downstairs in the bar. Such a great day, highly recommended. Easy parking too.

We made a last minute decision to check out the newly renovated Hotel Esplanade last weekend. Opening weekend. Despite our fears of having to queue up from around the corner we arrived at the heaving venue and walked straight up the stairs. Wow! What a fit-out! Some serious cash has been splashed on this iconic venue. However it has retained all of the character (and in fact added some more with the opening of the upstairs rooms). Bar service was prompt and friendly from all of the bars. Hot tip: If the public or front bar is rammed - head to the back of the bottom floor where there are a few more tucked away. We ate in the restaurant, the food was delicious. The kitchen had a few hiccups but as is to be expected on opening weekend. The staff handled the errors with swift professionalism. By the time we finished eating, the upper lelevs were closing so we didn't get the opportunity to fully explore the new rooms and cocktail bars. Looking forward to doing that this weekend.

As a visitor to Melbourne from NZ we very disappointed with Hotel Esplanade. The place smelt inside like cleaned up sick. The toilets were poorly cleaned and maintained with several taps missing or broken off the handbasins. There was a strong smell of urine. We were charged $60AU for 2 glasses of a very average NZ Pinot Noir. We made a complaint to the duty manager who was very apologetic and refunded our money and gave us a complimentary Glass of bubbles. We were also disappointed to speak to a staff member who is only offered 10 to 20 hours a week full time and not offered any behind the bar work as they don't have full time residency. When we complained to management about the state of the disgusting women's and men's toilets we were told the Australian Venue Co does not care and won't do anything. A real shame that a beautiful old building and pub is now just a cash cow and customers are just seen as a source of income. Poor form AVC
