Visited The Bogey Hole mid-morning Wed 3rd April 2019 during beautiful sunny Autumn weather ~a couple of hours after the morning high tide - an excellent time to visit! There was a moderate ocean swell with some sizeable waves coming through in the sets - washing over rocks & into the Bogey Hole quite a bit every now and then - beautiful to see & fun to play in! The closest vehicle access is a fair way away, which is a good thing - helps keep the crowds away, & allows visitors to enjoy the nice walks & views nearby to access the area. The relatively new stairs, hand rails, platform & ladder are all excellent - a massive improvement on the very old & dangerous previous access infrastructure. The old chain & poles around the seaward side are great also - obviously very old & rusty, but still do the trick - great to hang onto (with care) during certain wave, tide & swell conditions where parts of waves & spray can wash over you into the pool behind. The marine life in the pool itself is quite diverse - there's more in there than most would think - cungi, weed, reef growth, anemones, starfish all on & around much of the rocky floor, walls & ledges. Often little bait fish, wrasse, stripeys, small drummer, rock cod & other small fish thrive in it as well - I snorkelled in there today & viewed all of this in it's glory, very nice! I hardly noticed any litter nor rubbish in & around the area at all, this morning - extremely happy about this; in a modern world where too many people in too many places disrespectfully & stupidly fail to clean up after themselves, dispose of litter properly, & "tread lightly on this earth". Good to see a nice, clean coastal area! The Bogey Hole was hand-hewn out of the wave cut rock platform during 1819 to 1823: the oldest ocean pool on the east coast of Australia. A wonderful swimming hole that should be preserved, respected & enjoyed by many generations to come. WARNING: Be extremely careful entering the water however & wherever you choose to do so - diving in is not recommended as some parts are very shallow, & much of the surrounding rock areas are often very slippery & difficult to clamber over. TIPS: Consider visiting during a morning in nice weather, when the ocean water appears clean & conditions are calmer than not, within ~a couple of hours of high tide when waves often wash fresh ocean water through the pool..

Title: Hidden Gem: Bogey Hole - A Breathtaking Sydney Rock Pool Nestled along the stunning coastline of Sydney, Bogey Hole is a hidden gem that captivates with its breathtaking views and tranquil atmosphere. This rock pool offers more than just a refreshing dip; it provides a unique vantage point to soak in the beauty of the surrounding beachscape. Bogey Hole's location, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of more popular beaches, adds to its allure. It offers visitors a sense of serenity and seclusion, making it an ideal spot for those seeking a peaceful retreat from the city's hustle. The rock pool itself is a marvel, carved naturally by the ocean over time. Its crystal-clear waters invite swimmers to take a refreshing plunge while admiring the rugged beauty of the rock formations that encase it. Whether it's gazing out at the endless expanse of the Pacific Ocean or watching the sun paint the sky with vibrant hues during sunrise or sunset, every moment spent here is a feast for the senses. In conclusion, Bogey Hole is truly a hidden gem in Sydney, offering visitors a unique and memorable experience. With its breathtaking views, safe swimming conditions, and tranquil ambiance, it's a must-visit destination for anyone looking to escape the city and reconnect with nature's beauty.

The Bogey Hole is the holy grail of ocean pools - the original, built by convict labour in 1820 for Lieutenant-Colonel Morisset, the Commandant of Newcastle. Enlarged to its current size in 1884, it’s a natural beauty, in a stunning spot barely sheltered from the pounding surf at the base of a cliff. We went around low tide, as local friends had warned us that high can get quite hectic. Even near low the occasional wave surged foaming through the pool. It’s a bit of a walk down 150+ steps to get here, which hurt on the way back to the free parking areas, but this one has plenty of wow factor to justify the effort. One star off because I did find it a bit whiffy…

Mate, let me tell you, this place is an absolute gem. Tucked away along the coastline, it's like a hidden oasis. You'll find it nestled among the rocks, and it's perfect for a refreshing dip on a hot summer's day.

The history behind the Bogey Hole is pretty cool too. It was hand-carved by convicts back in the day, and it's been a popular spot for locals and tourists alike ever since.

There's something magical about taking a dip in these natural rock pools while the waves crash around you. It's like your own private ocean retreat.

The best part? It won't break the bank! It's a budget-friendly way to cool off and enjoy some of the Central Coast's natural beauty.

But fair warning, the Bogey Hole can get pretty busy, especially on weekends. So, if you're after some quiet time, consider going early in the morning or on a weekday.

So, next time you're in the Central Coast area, don't forget to pack your swimmers and sunscreen and make a beeline for the Bogey Hole. It's a true local treasure that's not...
