Thistle Bar & Bistro — Restaurant in Portland

Pros: good parking, great views over the harbour, wheelchair access, friendly staff, not a bad range of draft beers, food was mostly as described. Cons: Saturday night: 1/3 capacity if that, meals took about an hour from ordering to table, staggered delivery, some meals not warm and they ran out of BREAD for soup (they did offer cheesy garlic bread as a replacement) and no smoked salmon on a seafood platter. Overall: pathetic. We had 2 other couples from out of town and I was embarrassed that I suggested this place. Extremely disappointing. I was told that I could not change the sides of meal from vegetables to chips. 'They don't like it' Have it as is, or have something else. Usually I would leave after this knowledge but the other people I was with had already ordered.

Decided to get the soup of the day (Pea and Ham) since I couldn't actually have what I wanted, and it average at best.

The oven was broken, the lady behind the counter said for like 4 weeks so we couldn't even get garlic bread. If that's so, then they should be letting people know that before they order or atleast trying to fix it.

The food is nice, service is only welcoming to locals, staff greet outsiders with a reserved regimental approach, they don't tell you that you have to serve yourself if you want extra plates, cutlery or napkins, which I located on a trolley in the centre of the restaurant.Alcoholic drinks are overpriced and you will be stung by the prices if your not local.
