Port of Call — Restaurant in Portland

Brilliant as usual! Fantastic coffee and their carrot cake is to die for! All the meals at our table were fantastic, and even though they were really busy the meals came out fairly quickly.

After visiting here again, I was left very disappointed! Firstly we ordered coffees and waited for approximately 20 minutes when our guests arrived and ordered coffee, and theirs came out straight away and there was no sign of ours. We asked where ours were, only to be told that they had been made. They had given our coffees to someone else!! And then when we went to order lunch, they told us they were shutting the kitchen and doing no more meals, hours before they were due to shut!!! We were lucky to grab a window side table in this airy establishment where I grabbed a mug of mocha and a burger with the lot. The mocha was extra large so I was surprised to see that they sell an even bigger cup which they call a 'bucket'. The burger with the lot had a slight twist: grilled pineapple. I personally liked the caramelized pineapple with the egg, meat and cheese combo; it was savoury with a slight sweetness like a fruity chutney. Allround, this place has good food. After paying $8.50 for a small chips we were disappointed to find them quite unedible. They were cooked waaay to long and were so oily and dry. It was clear they were mixed with old chips being reheated and were cooked until so crisp there was no potato left. very disappointing as we had previously had excellent chips a few weeks earlier (though they got the rest of the order wrong). Service was slow and the cook appeared uninterested in living anymore let alone food service. Cafe was nice clean and tidy and coffee was excellent. Hope this can help to improve...
