The Portland Tram Depot is a must-visit for anyone interested in history, transportation, or simply enjoying a unique and scenic ride. The depot is home to a fleet of restored historic trams, which operate on a 7.4km route along the Portland foreshore and back again.

The tram ride itself is a lot of fun, with knowledgeable volunteers providing commentary on the local history and attractions along the way. The trams are also very comfortable, with plenty of seating and even a cafe car where you can purchase snacks and drinks.

In addition to the tram rides, the depot also has a small museum with exhibits on the history of trams in Portland. The museum is free to enter, and it's a great way to learn more about the city's transportation heritage.

Overall, the Portland Tram Depot is a great place to visit for people of all ages. The tram rides are fun and informative, and the museum is a great way to learn more about the city's history.

Here are some additional things I liked about the Portland Tram Depot:

The depot is located in a beautiful setting, right on the Portland foreshore. The tram rides are very affordable, and there are discounts for families and groups. The depot is wheelchair accessible, and there are special trams that can accommodate people with disabilities.

The depot is open year-round, so you can visit no matter what time of year you're in Portland. If you're looking for a fun and educational activity to do in Portland, I highly recommend visiting the Tram Depot. You won't be...

When we were in Portland recently we experienced the Tram cable ride and museum. We missed the 10am ride but this gave us a chance to look at the museum. While small, we learnt so much about Portland and the history of the Cable trams of Victoria. There's a movie held on the history of cable trams. There are many great historical photos that portray Portland and where it's come from to today. There's a train room and other historical finds. This gave us insight on our ride. The ride on the tram is an hour long and you see around most of the main attractions of Portland. The volunteer lady we had telling us about Portland and the trams and many historical stories of Portland was great and made the trip very enjoyable. Bruce the driver was also very friendly. We loved the experience. My son thought it was the best! Highly recommend to had it to your...

The tram ride is a lovely activity. You pootle through the town and along the harbour front at a very gentle speed. You are provided with a commentary throughout the ride which was great as you get to learn more about the local area.

Although sightings are not guaranteed, there is a possibility of seeing wild koalas. We were lucky enough to find one and were let off the tram to take photos/videos.

The tram ride itself is definitely worth a go if you are passing the area and have time!

I wouldn’t necessarily say to make sure you leave plenty of time to see the museum. It isn’t very big (2 rooms) and there isn’t a lot to see.

The video being shown about trams in the museum was very...

Hop-on & hop-off tram running 3.7km along the cliff top adjacent to the town gives a great view & does a round trip every hour between 10am to 4pm. It's run by volunteers who are very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. They give a running commentary as the tram runs along at a fast walking pace about the history of the town & things to see. You can hop on & off as many times as you like for the day. There's a small museum about the tram & area which they stop at but we'd recommend the botanical gardens stop. We spent an an hour strolling through them & walked 19 minutes into town for a coffee & food at Bahloo Portland cafe.

- Quite interesting ride, preserved for so many years.. - well maintained and organised - excellent and welcoming staff.. always smiling.. - reasonable ticket rates.. see photo.. - one hour total duration for the ride.. - the guide named Stefanie was great.. - their museum inside the depot is awesome too.. see photos.. - a tiny book for leaving your feedback.. thoughtful gesture.. 👌 - my personal suggestion: if you’re visiting Portland for the first time, get this Cable Tram tour as soon as you reach there so that you get used with this beautiful town of Portland..
