House Canteen exceeded all expectations, providing an unforgettable evening with its breathtaking views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge from next to the Opera House. The sashimi was an exquisite culinary delight, showcasing freshness and quality. Our exploration of the diverse wine and cocktail menu was a delightful journey for the taste buds. The addition of hot chips added a comforting touch to our culinary adventure. Sharing this experience on a date added a romantic ambiance to the evening, with the iconic scenery as our backdrop. The social atmosphere was heightened as we engaged with a warm and friendly crowd, turning the night into a shared celebration. What truly set House Canteen apart was its vibrant and multicultural staff. Their energy and enthusiasm contributed immensely to the overall experience, creating an inviting atmosphere that made us feel welcome and appreciated. In essence, House Canteen is not just a bar; it's a destination where exceptional views, delectable cuisine, and a diverse and friendly community converge to create a five-star experience that lingers in your memory.

I recently had the delightful opportunity to dine at this restaurant, a fortunate discovery made by chance. As a vegetarian, I was pleasantly surprised by the extensive range of options available, catering wonderfully to plant-based preferences. The food was not only wholesome and healthy but also quick to prepare, a testament to the kitchen’s efficiency. What stood out was the skillful balance of simple ingredients transformed into dishes that were both visually appealing and delicious in taste. This place clearly demonstrates that health-conscious food need not be bland or uninteresting. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to others and look forward to revisiting it in the future. An additional charm of this eatery is its location. If you visit during the late afternoon, as the sun sets, you’ll be treated to a stunning view of the harbor and the iconic house with sails. 😊 This scenic backdrop added an extra layer of enjoyment to an already wonderful dining experience. 100% recommend.

After much research we secured tickets for New Years at House Canteen. We are so thankful as it was by far the highlight of our family holiday. The location is the best seat in the house! Opera Sails towering above you with the bridge across the water. Amongst the queues, chaos and crowds of Circular Quay we found the stairway down to the Tokyo Nights event pretty easy in the end. The event styling, arcade games, performers and dj added to the excitement. Cocktail food felt like it didn't stop ALL night–delicious. By far the biggest call out goes to the army of staff. You could tell they were a mix of seasoned pros and newbies. Not one of them wiped the smile of their faces all night. Whether it be serving sushi, mixing a cocktail or collecting rubbish it was lovely to be looked after a by a relaxed, fun and caring bunch. We were so thankful to have this offering as an all ages event. Our family will never forget our little "spot" at House Canteen. Happy New Year!

We had an afternoon snack here, the vegatble chiu chow (like a vegetable har gow) had a weird plastic smell and taste, and the salmon sushi tasted fishy like it had been left out too long (fishy taste and wasn't cold or fresh smelling). We ate three of the four sushi and couldn't eat the last. The chiu chow was inedible and we were unable to swallow even a mouthful to the point of taking it out of the mouth, back into the basket. We ordered some chicken dim sim in place of it, which was not very good but edible since we were so hungry. We also had a mocktail, juice, and a bacon and egg roll which were fine. We let the manager know the sushi didn't taste fresh, like it had been left out too long and the chiu chow wasn't edible. She said the sushi is fresh, it is prepared each morning but she will give the chef our feedback! I was a bit astonished at the response. But putting that aside, I said well we aren't even able to eat a bite of the chiu chow it's just horrible, so she asked if we would like her to bring us something else. I said we already ordered chicken dim sim instead and could she please refund the chiu chow. She said ok. I have checked my credit card statement today, two weekends later and there's no refund. The food was extremely sub-par as was the unapologetic handling of our feedback...

Not bad food, but woeful customer service.

3rd time visiting, 3rd time there were problems with the order. Whilst some waits can be partly explained to peak periods, regular mix ups of orders and behind the counter staff telling you to go see someone on the other side in dismissive tones or telling you to go ask someone else weren't on the menu when I checked. Having to take your plate with you for fear of seaguls dining or your part filled order isn't for a pleasant experience . Whats in disarray is that when asked at point of pay before sitting whether you want it in succession or together; it makes no difference. As one sits there until eventually asking why your main has arrived before your starter, you are then given the rehearsed answer that 'there are two different kitchens'.

That explanation should not be the customer's concern.

On the third visit (this is the first time I had to actually complain) a manager came to then see me who in fairness tried to remedy, which I did appreciate but said it was not necessary. All that mattered was getting the service paid for.

This establishment sits under the nose of the iconic opera house; it needs...
