Disappointing Experience at Mission Escape Room – Not Recommended for Families
We had a pretty unpleasant experience at Missian Escape Room today. We originally booked for three people, and on the day, two more joined us—a mother and her 12-year-old child.
Upon arrival, we were asked to sign waivers and were taken straight to the room with very little briefing . We made it clear that two of the participants had never done an escape room before and were a bit anxious, but there was no effort made to ease them in or provide a proper briefing.
We were told to enter in a dark box like area, crammed into a very tight, pitch-dark space. No one asked if anyone was claustrophobic or explained what was happening. The door was then shut behind us. This game is advertised as suitable for ages 10+, but I can confidently say it is far too intense for many children—especially without proper context or reassurance. The 12-year-old was extremely frightened by the tight space and darkness and wanted to leave immediately.
It took few minutes for staff to respond and open the door. The mother and child left before even entering the actual game room, understandably shaken and upset.
The three of us who originally booked decided to stay and complete the game. The game itself was well-designed and pleasantly scary for adults, though it leaned more toward a horror experience, with creepy sounds, props, and dark environments—not something I’d consider appropriate for a 10-year-old without clear warnings.
After we finished, we asked if we could receive a refund for the two people who left at the beginning. We were told no—because they signed the waiver and “it’s policy.” I understand the importance of policies, but customer service should allow for some flexibility, especially when no service was actually provided. A short, vague briefing and a few minutes in a dark cupboard cost them over $120.
It came across as greedy and dismissive, and sadly overshadowed the quality of the actual game. If you’re looking for a more thoughtful and welcoming experience, I highly recommend Cipher Room instead—the staff there are fantastic, the atmosphere is amazing, and the briefing is clear and reassuring. The quality of the games is just as good, if not better.

Read moreIt was an Ok experience but i would not recommend. We did "the Last order", and to be frank there was a bunch of pretty frustrating things about it.
Firstly, it was practically a sequential game - there is only one thing at a time you can work on which makes you wait a lot of the time: a lot of other escape rooms we did allowed to start solving things in parallel which made it more dynamic & rewarding; this one will most likely be boring if you have more than two people in your team.
Secondly, there were automatic tips to solving the problems throughout the game - they were given to us over a speaker by a recorded voice. They were 1) useless because we'd have already found whatever they were "tipping" about, 2) frustrating mainly because we did not ask for them in the first place - we came here to solve things and challenge ourselves, not to be hand-fed the clues. If we wanted clues, we would have asked the staff.
Thirdly, a lot of the time you'll be just waiting for the recording to finish playing or for example because the locker would lock out for 5 min (!!) after just a few password attempts - and because it was essentially a sequential game (see the first point), you'd have nothing else to do but just wait - b-o-r-i-n-g. Breaks the whole excitement - you can't get into the "flow" of dynamic problem solving.
And final point, the staff spoke English that was hard to comprehend. It was frustrating having had to ask twice or three times to what they just said over the radio. Our impression was also that they did not seem friendly nor enthusiastic (unlike, say, the staff at PaniQ escape rooms on the Rocks).
To be fair, there were a couple of good puzzles in this room! Unfortunately, literally just a couple.

Read moreDr M was essentially the first escape room for our group of 5, as those that had done a room before did it so long ago that we barely remembered. We mainly did it for fun due to its chemistry theme as we all study chemistry, so we weren't expecting to escape at all considering how most people seemed to find it difficult for newbies. Thanks to our chronic overthinking we had a slow start but we ended up escaping with time to spare and it was really fun! The only irritating thing ended up being the final puzzle where the iPad was a bit dodgy despite us trying multiple times which reduced how good our escape time would be but not a massive deal. The hints were also a bit useless since they ended up telling us to do things we had already done, but they did serve as good reminders since we overthought way too much, and it felt much more gratifying when we finished.
Some disclaimers if you want to try it: Slightly physical for one puzzle so if you have small people in your group it's quite an advantage but not impossible if your group is tall! It is slightly spooky but there aren't any explicit scare elements, so if you are very sensitive to fake blood or dark rooms maybe call ahead and ask what it's like before booking (I don't want to explicitly spoil anything) Maybe not the best for first timers, but at the same time it is a fun option for bigger groups since puzzles eventually get solved when everyone puts their heads together
Slight spoiler: We weren't sure if the backpack was actually a part of the room or just a jumpscare? Not a complaint, just slightly confused haha since we tried to look through it for clues but...
