The parks history.
This park was the site of the First Female Factory during 1802-1821 and gaol it was called The Factory Above the Gaol it was a wool and linen factory it was worked by female convicts.
In 1821 the factory was relocated to the new factory located within the Fleet St Heritage Precinct which is currently occupied by Cumberland Hospital.
The gaol was Parramatta's 2nd gaol 1804-1841 in 1842 the gaol was demolished it was then authorised as a village green on the 27th November 1837 it was referred to as the Old Goal Green or Hanging Green by the locals
Prince Alfred had an assassination attempt by Henry James O'Farrell which marks religious and racial tensions in 1868. The park was then named Alfred Square in 1868 to commemorate the visit of Prince Alfred Australia's first royal visitor during which he visited Parramatta.

During early morning, kids & adults would want to go but not enough lights are open( obviously) but if you are not a fan of crowded area , best time to come. Ice rinks, carousels, turbo caterpillars and adult rides all will be open. During the night, everything lights up and comes alive. Live bands and loud music could also be heard. Parking, it would be kore tougher to find one specialy the weekends but don't be sad little one I know mom and dad could find one around the blocks of Parra. 😉 so yeah, thats for winterlight. In the middle of traffic, next to Riverside theatre & St Patrick's Cathedral. Not large but certainly not small. Lots of tall Palm trees. Plenty of benches around to sit on. Near to eat street. Parking is available but restrictive on function festival days. Great for a picnic. Many Events are held here throughout the year. Disability accessible via paved walkways.
