I would avoid this one at all costs.
Their whole menu is a disaster. I ordered their Danish Omelette as well as their Barramundi dish, and i order one of their signature coffee bathtubs as well as one pot of Lavender tea. Their omelette dish the egg itself was bland and tasteless and some sections of it were not cooked enough. Otherwise they served it with some pretty okay sourdough bread, as well as salami or some sort of processed meat? Their Barramundi dish however was simply disgusting, do not even order it as it is not worth the $26 price tag. The fish itself was not nice at all, almost too fishy as if it were not fresh because it was freeze frozen, which caused the fish to have an unpleasant texture. The crispy skin was also very not tasty nor pleasant to eat. They actually did not even season the fish, i had to put salt and pepper on the fish itself and even that did not save it. The worst part of the dish was that they served it with this really confusing plate of sweet potato puree (what were they thinking!?!?!), this nutty pesto sauce (like the dipping sauces you buy from your IGA), and a bunch of stringy and stale sweet potato crisps that tasted like they were made 2 weeks ago and just dumped onto the side of your plate with no care. To top it all off, they also dump a bunch of decorative edible flowers around the plate to make it look pretty, but they literally add nothing to the dish itself. One of the most dissapointing Barramundi dishes i have ever had.
After the food i thought maybe the drinks would not be too bad but boy was i wrong. The lavender tea was also disgusting, i was initially intrigued as i did not know you could make lavender into a tea as the oil you extract from the plant is often inedible. However, if i were to describe drinking that lavender tea it were as if you were to drink washing deterginant not even joking. It left the most unpleasant oily sensation in my mouth, which you would get after each sip in the after taste.
Considering i paid like $62 for all this food i am not impressed at all, and looking at the rest of the menu i can only assume that their food is simply a novelty to attract young teenagers that only care about social media into their 'aesthetically pleasing and flowerly cafe' to take a bunch of photos to post to their instagram accounts. To the people who recommend this cafe , i do not know what types of drugs you were on when you did but i certaintly will not make the mistake of trusting your opinions of...
Read moreI went to Social hideout to catch up with a friend for brunch having seen the place by chance on Instagram. What an absolutely stunning venue! I wish I had taken a photo of the pink carpet we walked in on as it had been packed up when we left (mild critique, what cafe closes the kitchen so early on a weekend?)
The floral ceiling installation is utterly gorgeous and the place has clearly been designed with Instagram in mind with its neon signage, cute little outdoor umbrellas and utterly beautiful plating. In terms of food quality it wasn’t as pretty on the inside. I attempted to make a healthier choice and order the smashed avo but was told that menu finished at 11.45. As a Melbournian it’s simply unheard of to me to not have all day breakfast but perhaps they do it differently in Sydney.
I ended up with the taro hotcakes instead (how is that a lunch item and avocado toast isn’t?) I personally really love the flavour of taro and being that lovely purple colour they were visually spectacular. I quickly understood why they limit their menu so much as the food came near instantaneously. The hotcakes themselves were a bit dry but fared better when the syrup was poured on.
It was accompanied by black sesame ice cream which I’m generally not a huge fan of but it worked well with the dish itself. I paired this with a mango, peach and passion fruit cold pressed juice. This tasted EXACTLY like the golden circle tropical ‘juice’ blend and for the price I bloody hope it wasn’t.
I really applaud the venue not only on the amazingly dazzling space (complete with Audrey Hepburn wall art!) boasting over 17,00 (faux) flowers, but also on some really innovative concepts such as a bathtub milkshake. Would definitely recommend visiting this...
Read moreWe came here on a morning outing. We booked a table for 4+1. Being the first time we were coming here, we found Coles to be the best parking but apparently there is better parking closer by.
When we first arrived we were greeted with a warm smile by this cute Asian chick. I told her we had a reservation and she showed us to our table. The table was not in the best spot, we had a kid with us and the chair kept getting banged into by random guests and us as we got up which is quite annoying as a parent.
At first the menu seems forgiving but you have to understand the portions are quite small. $25 for the french toast with literally one slice of bread is an absolute rip off, I'm sorry to say but that is crazy expensive.
The mussakka food was crap it was like a porridge. But the Japanese omelette was excellent, the mince meat was well done and they didn't cheap out, Excellent 10/10 for that.
The rest of the stuff we ordered seemed a bit too heavy for breakfast and like I said with a lack of bread or any side dish it was hard to put down.
We only had coffee as drinks, the iced coffees were crazy, funky and a nice concept.
The atmosphere for this place is the niche point. I personally found it very feminine. I'd say this is more of a place for girls. While we were there it was majority just girls meeting up and instagramming it.
Overall excellent business model. Very Instagram friendly. Extremely overpriced on SOME items and not so bad on others. I would recommend the Japanese omelette.
