Guys literally DONT trust the 5 star reviews with beautiful pictures of this disappointing disaster of this place. I’m telling you, this review will be pretty long, but I have my reasons. So my family moved to a new house exactly on Lilyfield Road on a day in February, 2024. I had heard at the time that the newly opened Rozelle Parklands was only a five minute walk away on Lilyfield Road. I thought it was the perfect time to explore and play in the park, as it was still the school holidays. After a few days after we had moved in, I decided to walk to the park with my grandma, who was staying at Sydney for the school holidays. We stayed there for a while and I played in the playground. It was a really nice place, very modern, fun and eco friendly… or so I thought… The park had a big playground, a barbecue and seats, a giant dog park, lots of newly planted trees and bushes, a ping pong table, a shared pedestrian path throughout the whole park with an added pathway to get straight onto the Anzac Bridge and a pathway to a tram station to the city. It was perfect, and I visited it almost every day. Soon, school started and the park was still pretty busy. Fast forward a few weeks and wow, a literal GIRL found a bunch of asbestos in one area of the park and the park was SHUT DOWN, not even opening for FIVE MONTHS. Like how can a girl find asbestos in an innocent new park? Well luckily the place was shut down, or people would be breathing TOXIC AIR. Ok so after a few investigations, the place was completely shut down and about 6 MORE AREAS WITH ASBESTOS IN THE PARK WAS FOUND AND IT WENT ON THE NEWS. Um now you would be thinking: “Who’s the culprit of this mess?” Well after a few weeks, a state wide investigation was launched for all of Sydney. Guess what the government found in that investigation? Countless locations of dozens of trees, parks and even schools were found to be contaminated with asbestos. Lots of students had to move to another school because of this problem. A research soon revealed that all the asbestos came from a company that apparently sold “recycled concrete”. Wow, definitely very persuasive. After the investigation, workers started to work in Rozelle Parklands. I saw them every morning when I went to school and passed it. At first, I didn’t think it would take very long to fix the place. However, days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months. I also had noticed that the workers weren’t really doing much and most of the time were watching their phones.I really then started to think that the government should really do something about this, but they didn’t. Then, they reopened the dog park and I started to finally think that they were going to open it again. However, the playground remained closed 🤬. Now, after almost four months, it is still closed. What’s worse is that there are barely any more workers working. This place is an absolute disaster and the worst park in probably all of Sydney. A huge disappointment from the government too. ONE STAR I WOULD PUT ZERO...
Read moreThere are some beautiful parks in Sydney but this isn't one of them. In appearance it is more wasteland than green space because apart from the very large sports oval the rest of the park is mulch. Unfortunately there is virtually no shade apart from at the excellent childrens play area. The bridge link to Annandale is fabulous and had been beautifully done, but since the mulch has been replaced, all the lovely floral planting has gone. Being able to safely & easily access the Rozelle light rail stop and Glebe Foreshore via the new pedestrian bridge is great. The new walking paths are not wide enough as they are shared with cyclists and have no shade. Hopefully one day they will extend the walking track from the park further to connect Rozelle parklands to Pyrmont via the old Glebe island bridge. Great to see the local water bird population enjoying the new wetlands. The lights in the water look very pretty at night. Unfortunately the park is dominated by three enormous unfiltered smokestacks which emit all the carcinogenic exhaust fumes from the entire network of tunnels underneath. Hopefully more trees will be planted along the walking paths and along the perimeter of the park to screen off and absorb the fumes from the heavy traffic on the City West Link. Overall if the park is greened with lots more canopy trees and grassy areas instead of mulch it will become a...
Read moreGreat addition to Sydney's Parks. Had a great stroll through the park. A lot of the plants haven't grown to full maturity yet but I can see the potential. Beautiful little garden full of natives and a neat little water feature.
Lots of amenities available from exercise machines, playground equipment, BBQ, shelter and ping pong tables.
I made it a day by walking the black wattle Bay passing th fish markets and over the Anzac bridge. Great place to start and end the walk. Local light rail stops here so it's easy to access without a car. Plenty of bike paths to reach this park and diverges to many other places too. It does seem there is still. More construction ongoing to add a few more things...
