Garry Owen Hotel — Restaurant in Sydney

Once this place was great with a wider selection of food and the venue itself is beautiful with the high wood beams and photos of Italy. Unfortunately the service tonight was terrible. We waited 50 mins for a basic steak and hamburger (chosen because the menu unfortunately doesn't do the amazing macadamia nut and hollumi salad anymore). When I asked about when the food would come the cook yelled at me about it being a hugely busy night - but there was only a group of 8 present when we ordered; all other people came after us and got food first. Many tables however would have half the dishes served so that half the table finished before the rest came out and the waiter was completely lost as to who ordered what and had to re-take several orders as he had forgotten. The Italian guy making the pizzas seemed lovely though and apologised for the wait. I understand waiting when it is busy but to be yelled at after waiting 50 minutes was very poor service and we will not likely...

The Gary Owen Hotel is hands-down one of the best spots we've found for a family dinner without breaking the bank. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming—perfect for both casual meals and special nights out with the kids.

The food? Absolutely delicious! Generous portions, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. They’ve got something for everyone, from classic pub favorites to a few nice surprises on the menu. And the prices are incredibly reasonable for the quality you get.

The Gary Owen for those in the Inner West have historically known it for being a sub par establishment. However under the recent new management they have honestly turned it around! The new menu and food options are fabulous, accomodating staff for whatever sport you wish to watch, great wine list and it’s just a great local spot to go! Particular shout out to the manager, staff and chef - called ahead to say I was bringing a motley crew of a cealiac, vegan, pescatarian and someone who only wanted a schnitzel and they were nothing but accomodating with ensuring there was no contamination for our cealiac, offered different options and alternatives and made it a very enjoyable evening.
