What I love about Grand Central, is that it’s not just another giant shopping centre filled with chain stores. There is a lot of locally focussed and community building activity happening in between the corporate giants housed inside. On a recent visit, my daughter and I came across, ‘The Dad Cave’, which is the focus of my review today. Putting aside the obvious sexist, gender stereotype that the name entails, the concept of ‘The Dad Cave’ is brilliant. It is a recreational space, containing arcade games, table tennis, Jenga, a fake bbq and camp site, and a PlayStation, for people to enjoy some play time together. And it’s all FREE!. The space is beautifully designed, and feels homely and relaxed, and is a welcome break to the overstimulation of several hundred shops all competing for your attention and money. I commend Grand Central for their initiative in not using every inch of their floor space to house commercial ventures, but having the mindset of giving back. Thank you.

Review of Grand Central, Toowoomba

I've been living in Toowoomba for just over 12 months, and during that time, Grand Central has been a regular part of my daily routine. I shop, grab coffee, eat at the food court, and visit the gym—it's a central hub for many locals.

Unfortunately, my experience has been far from welcoming. Over the past year, I have repeatedly felt profiled, discriminated against, and treated like a second-class citizen by the centre’s security team. Despite having no criminal record and simply going about my day, I have been followed, questioned while waiting outside shops, and even approached in restrooms while just using the facilities—behavior that is invasive and unjustified.

I raised my concerns both in writing and in person with Grand Central’s operations manager, yet the treatment has continued. I even sought clarification from Queensland Police to ensure I hadn’t unknowingly done something wrong. They confirmed I had not. Still, the harassment persists to the point that I no longer feel safe parking in the centre’s car park, and the ongoing stress has begun affecting my health.

This is unacceptable. I believe there is a serious need for an investigation into the conduct of the security staff at Grand Central. At the very least, they require proper training in how to treat all patrons with basic respect and dignity. Everyone deserves to enjoy their local shopping centre without fear of being unfairly targeted. Concerned citizen...

Will not be returning. My best friend was undergoing cancer related surgery at Toowoomba hospital and I was dog sitting his dogs. They are guard dogs, much loved and very well looked after animals. It was around 15 degrees. So I wound down the windows around and inch so they could enjoy the cool breeze, while parked on the rooftop in the early afternoon sun. There were no cars parked close to where I was parked, but did not wind the windows down any futher, as the dogs are very protective of our vehicles... Lots of barking at strangers close to the vehicle. I did not appreciate being reported to management, called and accused of animal cruelty, after being in the centre for less than half an hour. We left the western downs area at 7:15am and my dear friend of 20 plus years, was undergoing surgery for cancer and was stuck at the hospital all day waiting patiently for his turn... So I attempted to do some errands whilst in the area and grab a bite to eat. We did not arrive home until around 10:15 pm! A very long day, that should've been an easy one; but unfortunately was made quite inconvenient by people not respecting animals boundaries and their owners whom care for them. Very disappointed in Grand Central. There are other, smaller yet much friendlier places to shop. Where all...
