Happiness is landing in a new place. And, the moment I landed in #Baku, I knew a lifelong love affair is about to start with the ‘Land of Fire’ - #Azerbaijan. A country that’s a maze of contradictions and contrasts. Neither Europe nor Asia, it's a nexus of ancient historical empires, but also a ‘new’ nation which has undergone an extraordinary transformation from the war-ravaged post-Soviet 1990s to an oil-enriched host of Formula 1 and Europa League football. Baku, the cosmopolitan capital of Azerbaijan is a mix of cultures and eras, where the country's Turkish, Russian, Persian and European identities collide on every street. The capital has the UNESCO-listed ancient core - Icheri Sheher (the Old City) along with the dazzling 21st-century architecture (Flame Towers, Heydar Aliyev Centre and the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum) sitting prettily on a balmy bay of the Caspian Sea But it’s biggest wealth is its people. I haven’t come across more generous and courteous people than Azeris. Special thanks to @zohrememmedzade & @brandonjperspectives for showing me around & helping me when I needed them the most. Although Azerbaijan is a fast-growing tourist destination in the world, but the country still remains off-the-beaten-path for even the most avid travellers. But planning a trip to the ‘Land of Fire’ is super easy. All you need is a passport, email id and 25 USD to get a single-entry, 30-day e-visa to enter #Azerbaijan. So, when are you booking a ticket to this quirky Caspian Sea city? #travelseewrite #travelblogger #travelvlogger #ilovebaku #azerbaijan #flying #JazeeraAirways #travelseewrite #bakugood #aviationphotography #instaplane #trendingreels #bakugood #offbeattravel #aircraftphotography #aviation #ig_airplane #bakugoods #HeydaAliyevCenter #caspiansea #medieval #unescoworldheritagesite #evisa

A Disappointing Experience at Fairmont Hotel – A Far Cry from a 2-Star Standard

I have a high expectations from my previous stays at Fairmont Hotels worldwide, given its renowned reputation and my status as an ALL member. However, what I encountered was far from the service and quality expected from such an establishment. In fact, based on my experience, this hotel does not even meet the standards of Fairmont hotels.

Poor Reception Service & Unfulfilled Promises:

Upon arrival, I requested an early check-in, a benefit often extended to ALL members, yet this was denied outright without any effort to accommodate. Additionally, as I was traveling with my elderly mother, I specifically requested connected rooms to ensure her comfort and convenience. During check-in at around 1:00 PM, the reception staff assured me that connected rooms would be available by 3:00 PM.

Trusting their word, we left the hotel for a walk, only to return at 5:00 PM and be told by a different staff member that there were no connected rooms available until the next day. Even worse, this new receptionist dismissed his colleague’s earlier promise, showing a complete lack of accountability and professionalism. The following day, I followed up with yet another staff member, only to be met with the same response: “No one should have made that promise.” This clear miscommunication and disregard for guest expectations made the check-in process frustrating and unprofessional.

Subpar Room & Amenities:

The disappointment continued upon entering the room: • The air conditioning could not be turned off, making the room uncomfortably cold throughout the night. • The main lights would automatically turn on every 10 minutes after being switched off, making sleep nearly impossible. • No USB ports near the bed, a basic convenience available in even budget hotels. • The mini-bar was locked with a key, requiring guests to call the reception just to access it—an unnecessary hassle. • The bathroom design was inconvenient, with the toilet separated from the basin and shower area in a way that made the space feel disjointed and impractical.

Unhelpful and Uninformed Staff:

Throughout my stay, I found the reception and concierge staff to be completely unhelpful. Any question or request—no matter how simple—was met with a shrug and a response of “We don’t know.” This level of service is absolutely unacceptable for a hotel that claims to uphold luxury standards.

Breakfast Buffet – Lack of Variety:

Another disappointment was the breakfast buffet, which had a very limited selection compared to other Fairmont properties. The lack of variety and uninspired food choices made for an underwhelming dining experience.

Final Verdict:

My stay at this Fairmont property was nothing short of disastrous. The lack of professionalism, poor service, broken promises, substandard room conditions, and unhelpful staff made this one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had. Unfortunately, this establishment fails to meet even basic hospitality standards, let alone those expected from a luxury brand.

Fairmont should seriously reconsider how this property is managed, as it significantly damages the...

Flame Towers in Baku

This design is the definition of architecture😍 I really loved the design and this kind of buildings, the buildings that tells you a story and this story is that the flame is something very popular in Baku because of the huge amount of petrol that has in the sea and the underground...that's why it's telling a story

Plus, the place of the towers is just fantastic, most cityscape pictures that you take will contain the towers and they look amazing❤

The thing that I didn't like is, such an iconic tourist place it's not finish yet!!! Just the fairmont hotel (and BTW it's that luxury, I found it so mormal) which is one tower is working and one for business I guess and the third one should be entertainment center like shops and cinemas and more things but still not open, hope by my next visit will be open 😊

Overall, I definitely recommend visiting the towers and take a lot of pictures like mine 😅 and hope you will enjoy it to the max 👍
