Our visit to the Parliament Square was filled with great surprises. The square was laid out in the late 1700s to early 1800s by loyalist refugees from North Carolina following the American Revolutionary War. The buildings reflect both British colonial and American Federal styles, reminiscent of structures in New Bern, North Carolina.

We had the opportunity to interact with some government officials who invited us inside the lobby and explained the history and political views of the area. Entry is free, and the square is open to the public. You can also enter the building to visit the Assembly Gallery if it is in session. The best time to visit is on weekdays during the session months of January, April, July, and October, when you can see the Parliament in action.

Don’t forget to go to the back of the building, where you can explore the garden and other important buildings, such as the library and the...

PARLIAMENT SQUARE is located in the most busy street of Nassau, yes, BAY Street. This parliament is compose of THE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY, THE SENATE BUILDING & THE SUPREME COURT OF THE BAHAMAS 🇧🇸. When the HOUSE of Assembly is in service you could experience when the law makers are debating. When the Supreme Court is in session, you could see the Law makers dress with WIGS & ROBES which is traditional to British traditions. We just learned this by a local Bahamian, unfortunately, PARLIAMENT SQUARE is closed to tourists. It is very interesting to learn how some governments are constituted. I want to thanks our tour guy for explaining every part of this tradition, also I want to thanks GOD for giving us another opportunity to experience his creation, thank you GOD, sincerely,...

After exiting the cruise terminal, be sure to take a quick hike of a few blocks to Parliament Square. It is a very short walk from the terminal, head from the Terminal to East Bay Street in Downtown Nassau. These three beautiful, flamingo pink buildings, still house the Bahamian Government, some 200-plus years after their original construction. In the center of Parliament Square, is a statue dedicated to Queen Victoria (erected in 1905), the British Monarch, who the Bahamians held in high esteem. The brilliant architecture, colorful adornment of national bunting, and vibrant paint choices, make this a great opportunity to learn and snap some great travel shots.

Beautiful historical buildings and statues everywhere, it looks like we just stepped off the boat and entered a city that was 200 years in the past. Some of the designs, with the ornate architecture and the revolutionary war era cannons, plus the large statue of Christopher Columbus is fascinating. We enjoyed our tour guide telling us about the different people who live and work in these areas and the government buildings were almost like a small offshoot of the British Parliament. Quite captivating.
