I recently had the pleasure of visiting the breathtaking Junkanoo Beach in the beautiful Bahamas, and I cannot stop raving about my experience. From the moment I set foot on the pristine shores, I was enchanted by the natural beauty and vibrant atmosphere that enveloped this tropical paradise. Junkanoo Beach is truly a hidden gem that offers a perfect blend of relaxation and excitement. The first thing that struck me was the crystal-clear turquoise water that stretched out as far as the eye could see. The inviting waves gently lapped against the soft, powdery sand, creating a serene and peaceful ambiance. It was like stepping into a postcard-perfect scene, where time seemed to stand still and all my worries melted away. One of the highlights of my visit was the friendly and welcoming locals who made my experience even more memorable. Their warm smiles and genuine hospitality added a personal touch that made me feel right at home. They were always ready to share stories about the island's rich history, culture, and traditions, giving me a deeper appreciation for the Bahamas. Junkanoo Beach is not just a place to relax; it is also a hub of vibrant energy and excitement. As I strolled along the shoreline, I couldn't help but be captivated by the lively atmosphere. The sounds of upbeat music and laughter filled the air as beachgoers enjoyed various water sports and activities. The beach is also dotted with charming beach bars and restaurants that offer a wide array of delectable local cuisine. I treated myself to mouthwatering seafood dishes, including freshly grilled fish and succulent conch fritters, which were a true delight for the taste buds. Pairing these culinary delights with a refreshing tropical drink while gazing at the mesmerizing sunset was an experience that I will cherish forever. One of the things I appreciated most about Junkanoo Beach was its accessibility. Located just a short distance from downtown Nassau, it was incredibly convenient to reach. Whether you're visiting for a few hours or spending the whole day, the beach offers a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. In conclusion, Junkanoo Beach in the Bahamas is a tropical paradise that exceeds all expectations. With its pristine waters, warm hospitality, lively atmosphere, and culinary delights, it is an absolute must-visit destination. Whether you're a relaxation seeker or an adventure enthusiast, this beach has something for everyone. I cannot recommend it enough and can't wait to return to this slice of heaven in the future.

My boyfriend and I had a great time. However, we didn't have a great experience with some of the employees at the beach. An employee approached us about renting out the chairs and umbrella for $30. We paid him, when we got to our chairs a group of employees sitting behind us were just sitting there counting money and yelling at visitors at the beach, one of them approached us and closed the umbrella. I asked what was he doing? He said we didn't pay for the umbrella. I said we paid for the umbrella too. He approaches his coworker, the one counting the money and told her what I had said she then began yelling at us saying that we didn't pay for the umbrella and to stop with our lies. I was getting furious because we were being accused of not paying, luckily the employee we gave the money to came back and told her we paid. That nearly ruined my entire day, unacceptable! Another employee from that little group starting yelling at someone visiting the beach taking pictures of everything, to not take pictures of him without his consent as he will bring the cops over, and to delete that picture. It is a beach! Anyone can get caught in someone's picture, it's a public space! Overall the people visiting the beach (people from the resort or/and cruise) were more friendly than a lot of the employees who were renting out the chairs and the umbrella. Nearly ruined my experience thinking it would have been better to just lay on the sand instead of renting out a chair and an umbrella, but overall I decided to let it be and just enjoy the beach as it was our last day there. We had a great time swimming and catching some sun before returning home!

Our cruise ship stopped in Nassau. We had heard a lot of negative things about Junkanoo Beach, but it was our first time in the Bahamas and we wanted to see a beach. Junkanoo is about a 15 minute walk from port. We decided to give it a try, and if we didn’t like it we could just head back. I’m so glad we went! To be honest, we hated walking through the straw market. We hadn’t been outside the gates of the port for five minutes when someone walked by and said to be careful because people were already being robbed. We just hustled through the market and continued walking. Junkanoo Beach is just to the left of Margaritaville. There were guys there trying to sell beach chair set ups. One guy jumped up from where he was sitting and followed us, continuing to ask if we wanted chairs even after we said no. He eventually gave up, but he was mad at us. Oh well. The beach was super crowded with people and chairs. There were little buildings that looked run down. The beach itself didn’t look great. HOWEVER, most people were staying on the beach; very few people were actually in the water. My husband and I got in the water, which was lovely. We made our way (in the water) towards Margaritaville. Their private beach is right next to Junkanoo. There was a rocky area that we walked to which had lots of fish and crabs. We really enjoyed our time at Junkanoo. I’m so glad we went, glad we got in the water and ended up staying longer than we thought when we first got there.

Love this little beach just outside of Nassau! Nothing fancy (just the way we like it) and walking distance from the cruise pier. Still has a very local vibe, even though the tourists have shown up due to new Mega-Margaritaville Resort next door. Lots of beach shack restaurants and dive bars, but we always hit JYAH, a Spot for Yah! Proprietors Barry and BJ cleaned up this former trash-filled beach and put it on the must-do list! Even after a year or 2 away, they always greet us with that famous Bahamian hospitality and always treat us just like family! UPDATE: Junkanoo Beach is still a great place to kill a morning or afternoon in Nassau, but Barry has sold JYAH and moved to Tanzania. Owen of Owen's Spot has sort of assumed the role of beach ambassador and is performing his duties to perfection! UPDATE 2: Barry is back! And so is JYAH, the spot on Junkanoo Beach! Fair warning: this hidden gem is no longer the secret it once was, and coupled with the expansion of Nassau's cruise port, Junkanoo can get VERY crowded, especially in the afternoon. Arrive early to avoid the crowds, then spend the afternoon seeing the beautiful sights and sounds (and awesome bars and restaurants) of Nassau!

It was confusing trying to get from the port to Junkanoo, since the sidewalk goes to a boardwalk that ends at a restaurant and does not cut through to the beach. You have to walk around the buildings and down the road, on a very narrow sidewalk, to get over near the hotel and Margaritaville, which is where the beach access starts. We walked all the way down the beach away from the crowds of people. We brought snorkeling gear, but the water was way too murky to use it. We went in December and the water was cold, but we got used to it quickly. There was a surprising amount of garbage in the water at this beach. We did find loads of sea glass though and I spent a good hour picking up pieces. There wasn’t a shower anywhere that we saw on the beach. There is a foot wash right in front of Margaritaville. All of the food vendors were sold out of conch by the time we started looking for it. One of the vendors said to get it as early as possible, since they always sell out. We will be back to this port in a few weeks and will definitely try a different area.

We completed a walking tour and did not have much time to travel to another beach so we went to this one since it was walking distance to the port. Pretty crowded with people and empty chairs and not the best family friendly beach there. With this beach being the closest to port the crowding was to be expected and it really wasn’t that bad in the water - tons of swimming space still. If the empty beach chairs were not taking up the majority of space it may not have been too bad. No where to really lay down because beach chairs are scattered everywhere and have taken up most of the sand space. For the spot we were at it was $10 a chair and $20 for an umbrella (cash only). Kind of the only option since there was no space to lay down on the sand unless you go closer to the tides then you risk all your stuff getting wet or trampled on. Probably best for people traveling in pairs or friends but not for family with small children. Bring water shoes because the rocks and shells are abundant and will cut up the soles of your feet.
