The bar allowed us to get scammed by someone who doesnt work there and allowed him to use their register to charge my card. Be wary of people hanging out around the bar trying to sell you things who don't work there. As we walked up, a man asked if we wanted to buy anything, we said no and walked past (we were used to everyone yelling at us as we walked by so it didn't seem new). We went to find a beach chair and he chased us down and told us it was 10$. It seemed legit because a lot of beaches charge you for a spot. We didn't stop to think maybe he didn't work there because he seemed to know what we was doing. He got us a spot and then I followed him into the bar to pay. On our way to the register, a man who obviously did work there (was wearing a shirt with the logo) asked if I needed help. I told him it was OK because I was already being helped by the other man. He did a double take. At this point, the original guy is going back and forth with the guy working the register, seeming very demanding. If he worked there, it should have been very routine. Then the worker who stopped me had a back and forth exchange with the original guy. The worker seemed frustrated. Then he told me that, "this guy works for Diddy." I thought he was making a joke because he was wearing a white shirt, but then saw he was seriously concerned. I asked if he didn't work there, and he said "just be careful." After more back and forth, the original guy finally got the register worker to charge my card, and when I got it back it had been charged $45! Not 10, or even 20 if he had meant 10 each. He walked away fast before I could say anything, and I never saw him again (maybe the worker scared him off). It's not the bar's fault if people hang out nearby trying to scam tourists, and he seemed to go away after that. BUT they allowed him to use their register, I'm assuming he cut some type of deal with the cashier. I was also frustrated that more wasn't done other than telling me to be careful. Tell him to get out of there, give me my card back, and not allow the whole transaction to take place! Or refund me and charge me for the actual amount it costs to be on the beach. We talked to another couple on the beach, and through the bar they paid $40 for two chairs AND it came with two shots. We were obviously scammed, and while I appreciate that the staff tried to warn me, there is so much they should have done. Letting someone who doesn't work there use their register to scam tourists is ridiculous and scary. The beach was...
Read moreThe food here was good. We had jerk chicken with rice n peas, macaroni salad (mac n cheese), conch (KONK) fritters and a salad. Also ordered a ginger ale, sky juice and a bush crack. We expected service to be slow as it is pretty much in most places around the island, not knocking them for this. Their jerk chicken was flavorful and moist, the conch fritters were also delicious, and their macaroni salad was also moist compared to other establishments. What took us a back here is that when we ordered our soda, we were only given a plastic cup with ice and soda already in it. Other tables had a Can and in a Can is how they served it at all of the other places we had eaten. Eating outside in the Bahamas, you get lots of flies, they put chafing fuel cans (caution, they do get hot) on the table to rid the flies. Other tables had them while ours didnât. Lastly, what really got us is when we got out bill. The prices were all higher than what they read on the menu, with the exception of the fritters. When I was about to question our waiter, I didnât even open my mouth and he said he knew he charged us more for our sky juice and would adjust the bill. As I reviewed other items and was going to question the others he brought me $2 cash for the drink adjustment which I then felt awkward and didnât want to question the rest. Iâm not sure if they did this because 15% gratuity is automatically added to all the checks, but make sure you check your receipt! I also paid with my card and it took him at least 10 minutes to return with it. Please note if you want to sit in one of their cabanas itâs an additional $50 charge on top...
Read moreIf I could rate this zero I would. Experiencing discrimination is an ever present reality but it's always more hurtful when trying to support local small business and people you see as your own. As a Caribbean person who travels regularly on business I support the small local establishment when I can. Much to my dismay I stood patiently at the entrance waiting for at least 5 minutes for someone to recognise me and offer me a table. I am a patient man, not quick to believe the worst in people, so I decided to sit at one of the tables close to the entrance thinking maybe they are just very busy and someone will get to me shortly. I could see several staff members in their blue floral shirts attending to other persons dining and thought one will eventually come over. Not more than a minute after I sat two fair-skinned ladies approached the entrance. Before they could set foot inside a gentleman I assume to be the owner or manager greeted them and invited them inside. He sat them at a table close to me and ushered one of the blue shirt ladies to attend to them. They were presented with the menus, served water and left to decide on their meals and drinks. All the while I am sitting at a table not 10 feet away seeing all of this and still unattended. At this point I am now sure that I am invisible. Was I too dark to be seen? Is my money worth less than the next person? I got up and left absolutely disappointed by my treatment at this establishment. Thankfully the next restaurant I visited restored my belief in the good hospitality of the Bahamian people. Sad to say, I did not...
