I wasn't prepared for just how bustling and energetic Banff would be! The main streets are absolutely buzzing with activity - locals and tourists alike creating this wonderful, infectious energy that makes you want to explore every corner. The shopping scene is fantastic, with an impressive array of gift shops offering everything from local crafts to those essential extra layers you didn't pack (trust me, you'll want them!). What really struck me was how seamlessly this town balances that quintessential mountain tranquility with all the amenities you could want. The restaurant scene is outstanding - we walked past so many places that had us stopping to peek at menus and watch people clearly having the time of their lives on patios and through windows. There is this incredible sense that everyone's just genuinely enjoying being there. Despite all the activity, Banff maintains this peaceful, welcoming vibe that makes it feel like a true retreat. It's rare to find a place that's this well-equipped and lively while still feeling like an authentic mountain town escape. Whether you're here for adventure or just to soak in the atmosphere, Banff delivers on...
Read moreWe are from the US and came to visit this wonderful area, but I was truly dumbstruck by the parking situation in your town. First we saw " pay online" sign, the walked a little bit to see a machine for parking. It was being used and we also saw "pay online" on the side of that machine. We never saw, pay immediately, here's how to pay online, or any other type of explanation on your parking. You get a lot of visitors so I'm surprised there isn't an explanation at every site. Anyway, we thought we'd move on and pay when we return, but instead found a ticket. We went to pay the $36 and was just asked to pay the ticket price. If that is how you will treat your quests, I'm sure most will not be happy. I would have been happy to pay whatever the cost is to park downtown ,and I still have no clue what that price is. We have 2 more days here and they will not involve any downtown time. I will never be here again- you made that decision easy...or is that...
Read moreBanff Village during late April to early May is a hidden gem—peaceful, charming, and full of character as it transitions from winter to spring. The streets are walkable with a light jacket, and the surrounding mountains are still capped with snow, making every corner feel like a postcard.
Shops and cafes are open, but the village isn't crowded, giving you time to explore at your own pace. We enjoyed local spots like Wild Flour Bakery and The Bear Street Tavern without any wait times. The atmosphere was cozy, and the locals were friendly and welcoming.
It's also the perfect time to enjoy the Banff Upper Hot Springs with fewer people around. Trails like Tunnel Mountain were mostly clear, offering amazing views without the summer foot traffic. Elk and deer sightings were a bonus!
If you're looking for a quieter, more relaxed Banff experience with a blend of snow and sunshine, this shoulder...
