I'm usually a pretty patient person but experience from our server Audrey and staff at the Banff Avenue Brewing company was pretty horrendous. After being seated we waited forever to take our drink orders. 4 tables seated after us and all their drinks were taken before us. Then after finally placing our drink order we waved Audrey down to place our food order. Calamari to start. Poutine for my mother-in-law, chicken sandwich for my wife and myself a burger. 20 some minutes before the calamari comes. About an hour later for the food. She continued to go down our row checking on everyone besides us. Most of the others food had come and they were finished. We finally waved her down and 8 asked how long does it take for a darn Poutine. She said oh I placed the starter first but I will go check. After finally getting our food which she said he was just plating as she went to check my mother-in-laws fries were not warm at all. The whole time I'm frustrated and watching her go back and forth to the front and sign in to her phone and playing with her hair. I waved her down again for a Pepsi refill and she is off again. I go to the bar after 10 minutes to ask for a Pepsi and the bartender gives me attitude. I tell him thanks and he just shrugs me off. My family is Native American and you can clearly tell we are in a restaurant filled with white people. I have worked in the service industry before and know how the system works but it was not busy as she tried to say. She knew I was upset and if there was anything she could do. Not after an hour and a half of ignoring us. I paid the bill and left and she tries to explain and how I probably don't care. I have said before I'm patient but when this happens time and time again I swear it is frustrating being a First Nation's person in my own country at times. Does anyone even understand how that feels to not want to be your own culture? Thanks but no thanks Banff Avenue Brewing. You made a otherwise great trip to Banff a...
Read moreBanff Ave used to be one of my favourite, must-go, places in Banff. Until a couple years ago when their food and beer quality started to go down. Gave it one more chance this summer and probably won’t be back. Bad food quality, subpar beer, lazy service, and overcharged on bill.
Based on my last visit, I was very unimpressed. Service was not good, very “whatever” “don’t care” attitude. Server would not make any comments or recommendations on the menu besides “everything is okay and nothing sucks”. Looking back, it definitely sums up the place, it is just an ok place. Beer was alright, nothing special. Ordered nachos with cheese sauce. It took 45 mins to come out. Despite the long wait, Nachos were cold and tasted like they had been sitting out for hours. There were old fries from other orders in the sauce. Asked for a new one, but never came. Definitely not $24 worth. For dinner, we had a fried chicken meal and a buffalo chicken sandwich. Once again we waited an hour for the food amd came out stone cold. Both dishes were missing parts to the order, however this time they did get brought out… over halfway through the meal. Fried chicken had barely any chicken to it, mainly just breading. Chicken sandwich was supposed to be served on a focaccia herb bun but was just a regular old bun. Both meals were equally flavourless. It was a quiet day at the restaurant with long waits, and bland cold food.
Oh and to top it all off when it came time for the bill, we pay for our meal and was going to get the receipt but before we could ask the waiter says “would you like your receipt” presses the cancel button “No one ever does” and walk away before we can get our copy. Only to notice when we leave the we were over charged for our subpar meal by $25. Terrible choice for supper. Felt super let down. Probably won’t be back after...
Read moreI live in Calgary, and have been to Banff countless times over the years. When I was younger, whenever family would visit from out of town, we'd always take them to Banff. From what I understand, Banff Avenue Brewing company has only been in its current location for 10 - 15 years. I honestly forget what was there prior, but I've walked by the building countless times.
Recently I had family visiting from out of town. I hadn't seen my cousin in 20 years, and we spent the day visiting the numerous popular destinations within Banff National Park. At the end of our day, we were starving and parched.
We Google searched a few restaurants, and found that many closed at 9:30 p.m. As we were walking down Banff Avenue, I looked over at the all too familiar structure (now Banff Brewing Company), and said to my cousin "let's check it out!"
We jay-walked through traffic directly across the street, and it was entirely worth it! Lol
Our server was amazing (I think her name was Laurie?), and she was very well informed regarding the menu. She even took the time to take several photos of my cousin and I when we asked. We shared the Basic Bomber Pizza, and a caesar salad. Our beer of choice was the White Wit Belgian wheat beer. Everything was outstanding! Wow, I wish I could find a pizza like that in Calgary! Believe me, I've lived in Calgary since 1977, and have tried every Pizzeria here, Italian and Greek style. In all honesty, I found the Basic Bomber to be among one of the best deep dish pan style pizzas I have ever eaten.
I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Banff! However, it may not be accessible to someone with mobility issues, as it's on the second floor. I couldn't see an elevator. I took a look at their website, and there was no mention of one either. Probably best to call...
