A friend of ours was throwing a surprise party for his wife here. My wife and I were invited. Without being long winded, a few things went wrong here, one making me feel uncomfortable, which is not how I want to feel when in a restaurant. Upon arriving my wife and I were met with warm welcome, and lead to our table. We awaited the arrival of our party. Once they arrived I noticed that our friend was upset, turns out SALTLIK had ruined the surprise party by informing his wife about the fact that people were waiting for her arrival. (awkward). The waiter was pleasent, however visits to our table were sadly few and far between. One of our friends at our table mentioned that the service was very unlike them, and that it was normally very good. Sadly it was quite poor this night. I ordered a burger as I heard it was delicious, once it arrived in a reasonable amount of time, I must say I was very impressed. It was delicious, and ealisy one of the best burgers I've ever had. Shame that I won't be eating one again.... Here's why. Time came to pay for our meal and the waiter went around the table. I noticed a few awkward looks on the faces at our table as he went around with the credit machine. When it came to my turn I played along as usual. I gave the waiter my credit card. He then inputted the price, and proceeded through the menus. Upon handing the machine to me, it was already on the PIN screen. This was shocking! 🤯 I've never had a machine handed to me on the pin confirm screen before. Ever. The waiter had inputted the tip amount for me! I thought for a moment that this had something to do with the fact that SALTLIK has an 18% service charge for tables of 8 or more. We only had 7, and then 5 once one couple left. This made a lot of us at the table uncomfortable, including myself. Again, I've never had this happen at any establishment. Either the waiter thought we would tip poorly. So he chose his on tip, or he was just being shady. Either way this is a very poor way to conduct a transaction with anybody. I deserve to be able to see the the total at the very least, and if you want to add to me bill, do so and tell me about it. Don't trick me. Seriously. (just put 2 star to a 1 start). Seriously bad form SALTLIK, and very dishonest practice. Will not be returning, and will be informing anybody that will listening about this experience. A shame, because that burger.... 🍔. Dam.

The highlight of my experience - Pineapple Cut Calamari! The Saltlik was going to be our last meal in Calgary, so we wanted to go out on a high note. We had passed it several times while doing shopping and sightseeing in the downtown area. What really catches your eye is the Horse Sculpture on the side of the building. So very creative and interesting construction. The dining area is spacious and casual. They gave us a booth, which was okay, but in retrospective, a table would have been better for having a conversation with a party of four. We had made 7:00 reservations on a Monday night. Got seated right way. Our server did a great job getting us settled in with waters and menus. She did a great job the entire evening (thanks Jetta). For drinks we all decided on the special Sangria - very tasty. Lots of great sounding choices on the menu. The others in the party went with different salads, Caesar with Grilled Chicken, Roasted Mushroom Salad, and Farmhouse Greens. I was feeling like the odd-man-out, and ordered a couple of starters, the Calamari and Brussel Sprouts. While we waiting, they served us Cheddar Biscuits and butter. They were warm, and flavorful, but a bit on the dry side. The rest of the food came in not to long after. The salads were fresh and the portions were average size. The consensus was that they were "okay". Nobody was raving about their meals. I gave my meal mixed reviews. The Brussel Sprouts were not roasted as much as i would have liked. Normally an order get scarfed down, but not these. The Calamari that I ordered was tremendous. I was a bit confused as first by the shape and texture, which I asked our server about. She was very knowledgeable and told me about it being prepared Pineapple Cut. First time I had ever heard about this technique, which I researched once I got home. So much better than then other calamaris that I usually have. We saved room for dessert. We shared a Sticky Toffee Pudding, and the Molten Chocolate Cake. Those were both very good. The evening was nice. Wish some of the food items had been better. If we would come back to Calgary, we would give it another try (and of course get another serving of the calamari).

Had a fantastic dining experience here recently and will definitely be going back as I’ll be spending more time in Calgary and always love a place like this I can count on. We were lucky enough to go when it wasn’t overly busy and snagged a great spot on the patio beside the street. The street it is situated on provides a great atmosphere all on its own. Great people watching, with local buskers strewn throughout the area. We were greeted by Drew, who was top notch from start to finish. My dining partner already had a drink in mind and ordered off the menu. I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted and have an idea to Drew of the flavour profile I was after. He seemed to welcome the challenge sand the drink he brought me was exactly what I was looking for. She ordered the Hunter Chicken and I got the New York Striploin. Both of them were plated excellently. Flavour wise, I tried the chicken and it was quite good. Seasoning was a bit lacking and this cooking method isn’t quite enough to let the chicken to the talking by itself. Similar experience with my steak. Seasoning left something to be desired. Quite good but a bit sear heavy for a generally tougher cut. A pre-bake and rest during prime hours can go a long way. I have the same criticism of most steak houses. Just one man’s opinion. Drew came back and checked on us exactly the right amount of times and always a great little chat. I ordered an espresso after we were done dining. By this time, a fair few new tables had recently arrived and were seated. In the bustle of it all, my espresso order was lost. When Drew came back, I told him that if it wasn’t on the way, not to worry about it and we were good with the cheque. He went in and made it himself immediately and wouldn’t allow me to pay for it. If somehow that came out of his pocket, I hope the tip more than made up for it. I’ll certainly be seeing y’all soon and can’t wait to try some of your smaller dishes. They looked delicious. We just popped in for a casual dinner and ended up getting the big date experience haha. Thank you again to Drew and all the staff for the great experience.

My daughter booked a table for 8 last night to celebrate my birthday and to surprise me as my son and wife had come home from Australia and I did not know.

We were seated at a table where the light above us kept going brighter then dimming and this made reading the menu difficult and after a while drove me crazy. We mentioned it to one server who brought our appetizer but she just made a joke of it saying the place might be haunted and not to tell our server for our table as she was afraid of ghosts.

My husband ordered the steak sandwich, no mushrooms, with fries, and when our meals arrived it came with mushrooms and mashed potatoes. My husband didn't see the mushrooms at first so was willing to just eat the mashed potatoes but when he saw the mushrooms he decided to send it back. Had to wait 5 min for our server to come back to the table, she took the food away. 3 min later just the sandwich shows up, no fries, and then 4 min later the fries came, well after everyone else has started and my husband had eaten half his sandwich.

Both my daughter and I ordered the New York and we both agreed it was tough, although the other 2 who ordered the same said there's was fine. For $70 a steak, it should melt in our mouth! I didn't finish it and $9/bottle for "still water"??

It would have been nice to have been offered a free dessert, especially since it was my birthday and also because of the flickering light. It also would have been appreciated if a manager had come over to at the very least just apologize for the flickering light and assure us it would be fixed.

My daughter and boyfriend had been here several weeks before for their anniversary and Nick went above and beyond to make their experience memorable so she thought she would book this for my birthday and surprise home coming of my son.

We went to Chairman's for our anniversary at the beginning of September, and for the same price, the food was amazing, service was exceptional and we were treated to a free dessert, with happy anniversary written on the plate.

$700 later and I'm still thinking about this disappointing meal the next day. While the appetizers, mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts were great, this isn't enough to get me to return. Chairman's and even the Keg with a free Billie Miner pie would have been better.

UPDATE Nov - I really appreciated that Chris took the time to respond, made the effort to acknowledge my experience and understand my frustration. It really meant a lot My husband and I decided to give Saltlik another opportunity to show us what they so clearly take pride in. The food was excellent, especially the steak, and both Michaela and Cam were wonderful and went out of their way to make our evening perfect. I would not hesitate to go back and was happy that we decided to give them another chance. Many thanks to all who made our...
