Had a fantastic dining experience here recently and will definitely be going back as I’ll be spending more time in Calgary and always love a place like this I can count on. We were lucky enough to go when it wasn’t overly busy and snagged a great spot on the patio beside the street. The street it is situated on provides a great atmosphere all on its own. Great people watching, with local buskers strewn throughout the area. We were greeted by Drew, who was top notch from start to finish. My dining partner already had a drink in mind and ordered off the menu. I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted and have an idea to Drew of the flavour profile I was after. He seemed to welcome the challenge sand the drink he brought me was exactly what I was looking for. She ordered the Hunter Chicken and I got the New York Striploin. Both of them were plated excellently. Flavour wise, I tried the chicken and it was quite good. Seasoning was a bit lacking and this cooking method isn’t quite enough to let the chicken to the talking by itself. Similar experience with my steak. Seasoning left something to be desired. Quite good but a bit sear heavy for a generally tougher cut. A pre-bake and rest during prime hours can go a long way. I have the same criticism of most steak houses. Just one man’s opinion. Drew came back and checked on us exactly the right amount of times and always a great little chat. I ordered an espresso after we were done dining. By this time, a fair few new tables had recently arrived and were seated. In the bustle of it all, my espresso order was lost. When Drew came back, I told him that if it wasn’t on the way, not to worry about it and we were good with the cheque. He went in and made it himself immediately and wouldn’t allow me to pay for it. If somehow that came out of his pocket, I hope the tip more than made up for it. I’ll certainly be seeing y’all soon and can’t wait to try some of your smaller dishes. They looked delicious. We just popped in for a casual dinner and ended up getting the big date experience haha. Thank you again to Drew and all the staff for the great experience.

**This review is dedicated to THE CALAMARI** I don’t eat meat (though I do eat seafood), so I was a bit skeptical at first when my friend’s bachelorette was booked here, as it is a steakhouse. However, I had the best calamari I’ve ever had in my whole life. Yeah, the other pastas we ordered were good too, but omg, the calamari—it was the best of the best. I would come back here again and again just to eat that amazing calamari, and I will order it just for myself, not for sharing next time. Our server was amazingly friendly, and the host even served us free champagne when we arrived. However, they were a bit slow in bringing tap water, so we had to ask about four times (different staff) to finally receive our water, haha! 😅 The food portions were small and pricey, in my opinion, but since we didn’t order mains, it might be different for those. We also ordered some cocktails; I wasn’t really a fan of the first cocktail I ordered, the Vanity Fair, but the second one, the Moscow Mule, was okay. Originally, they had cucumber mule 🤢 on their menu, and because I don’t eat cucumber (they are stinky and disgusting to me), when they ran out of cucumber and started making regular Moscow Mules instead, which I prefer, it all worked out for me. I also had a house draft ale beer and it was ok, nothing special, just an average red ale beer. Their restroom was on the level below so you will need to go down the stairs. Overall, from my experience, I would say it’s a fancy steakhouse interior restaurant with a friendly staff, chill vibe, with amazing calamari. If you are planning to go here, please order the calamari; it is the best… lol.

Went here with a party of 15 people to celebrate a birthday. Overall the outstanding point of the experience was the staff and the attention to detail found around the restaurant. Our party ended up being larger than expected but the waiting staff quickly moved stuff around and got all of us seated together. Furthermore, they were able to make helpful suggestions with the menu, take our coats, and were always attentive. Unfortunately, the highlights did not include the meal. The drinks were well made, we ordered an espresso martini which was a little strong, a cucumber mule; very refreshing, and a margarita. Along with two beers. For our appetizer we had Wagyu Carpaccio, while you could tell that the quality of ingredients was high, it had too much grainy mustard aioli which was overwhelming. Our mains were the Table Burger, The Premium Steak Sandwich 7oz Prime Sirloin, and the Scallops + Gnocchi. The burger was delicious. The steak in the sandwich did not leave me that impressed considering the reputation of the restaurant. It seemed like all the seasoning on both the steak and the salad I ordered with it was put on only the top of the meal, and not eventually distributed throughout. Gave the impression that it was done at the very end and as if the salad hadn’t been tossed well. The Scallops + Gnocchi were very fresh and you can tell the pasta was made in house however I wish the dish would have been hotter when we received it. For dessert we ordered the Molten Chocolate Cake which was the best decision of the night. Cake was made simply and with great ingredients, knocked it out of the park. Everything included paid over $250 which is definitely on the expensive side when it comes to a night out for dinner. Wish there was more to highlight with the food, but at the end of the day the staff was the best thing that night. Not entirely sure that I would come back or recommend with no hesitation. But it was a great night! Side note: The area you can book downstairs seems outstanding!

Came to this restaurant with high hopes but was left disappointed because of the steaks. Wagyu carpaccio - 9/10 Beef had a rich smoky flavour to it, pickled shallots and mustard added the acidity that it needed to cut through the cheese and meat. Bread was on the oilier side, and the meat could have been colder. Wok-fired calamari - 8.2/10 Different take on calamari being that it's not deep fried/ crispy. Seasoning is great. Lack of a crunch threw me off, some pieces were a little soggy. Kobe fat fries - 8.5/10 One of the best fries I've had texture wise. Satisfying crunch and their horse radish/mustard dip has a nice kick. The fries themselves lack seasoning though. Angus beef sirloin - 3/10 One of the worst steaks I've ever had at a restaurant. Meat was so tough and hard to chew through that my friend had to spit a piece out. Steak lacked salt. Mashed potatoes were okay, brussel sprouts with the maple mustard dressing saved the dish. Filet mignon - 4/10 Easier to chew but that's a given with this cut. Basically the only upside compared to the sirloin. Also lacked salt. Vanity Fair Cocktail - 8/10 Nice refreshing cocktail. Sticky Toffee Pudding - 7.8/10 Nice presentation with the caramel chip. Toffee sauce is good, can be overly sweet to some. Pudding itself was moist. Caramel chip is quite thick and got stuck in our teeth when chewing. There could have been more ice cream for the amount of pudding there was.

I stayed in Calgary September 13-15th and ate at Saltlik two of the three nights we were there. My husband arrived before I did and was checking out the restaurants 8th Avenue SW for our dinner. There was a manager (John) standing outside of the Saltlik patio just talking to potential guests who came up to preview the menu. (Genius sales and service idea). John struck up a conversation with my husband and welcomed us to join them that night once I arrived. Once I arrived (very hungry after flying 4 hours) we went to Saltlik and was greeted by John again who ensured a nice table for us. He then told us he would prepare some mocktails and wok-fired calamari appetizer on the house for us! Wow.. what a welcoming surprise! They were both amazing. John introduced us to our waitress and the drinks and appetizer came out almost immediately. The wok fired calamari was so crispy! My husband ordered the Filet and Lobster tail and I ordered the Scallops and Gnocchi! So delicious on all fronts. Another manager,Dell, came to check on us half way though our meal. He also treated us like family and knew all the details we had told John about our trip! I mean, what customer service is that! We felt so welcome there, we went back two nights later and had the same experience! Thanks to all the staff at Saltlik for making us feel so welcome and like we were family! Your food and service were amazing!

Had such an amazing experience here during our first trip to Calgary. My friends and I decided to have a nice dinner the night prior to our flight back home to California. We had originally came to Banff as a birthday celebration to myself. It was one of the best ideas to stop by Saltik, and really such a great way to end our adventures. We all ordered the filet mignon and a cocktail. Our server, Drew, suggested the red wine addition which was very flavorful to the dish. In addition, the presentation of the cocktails were great. The food tasted great, but I think what what really made this experience amazing was our server Drew. He went out of his way to ensure we were well taken care of. He also brought me a glass of champagne and a round of shots as a birthday addition. We appreciated his knowledge on top of his hospitality. We were there until closing time and it felt amazing to have great food, good friends, and an amazing Drew that we bought an extra round of shots and called it a night. It truly felt like it was special enough for it to be everyone’s birthday dinner. We really appreciate our experience at Saltlik and wouldn’t mind flying back to Calgary to enjoy the same experience again or fly Drew to California lol. Thank you for such an amazing time.
