Edited. Quick, hurry August 27 is national Cinema day! BOOK NOW and on the day. Cineplex is having a HUGE SALE on all styles of movies from HD2 to DBOX all for $4 a ticket. Please note tho there is a booking fee for online. We purchased 5 tickets and it came to $25.05. But still a stellar deal!
Growing up in the North East of Calgary this theatre was the place to be at on the weekends.
Now that I'm an adult, I still enjoy Sunridge Cineplex theatre and don't mind travelling from The Northwest.
This theatre is incredibly clean, And not just entering, the entire place! Bathrooms are kept clean which makes it so comforting when voyaging with children.
The concession is kept popcorn free on the floor, at least every time we have been, which makes purchasing food a relief and enjoyable experience.
The theatre is easy to access from all areas. From Deerfoot, there are 16th and or 32nd exits. There is 36 Street and if you're on the bus the 19th, 48 or, Sunridge train station leaves you close enough to walk the 5-15 minute walk.
Easy access to Sunridge Mall across the street. Restaurants like Eastside Mario's, Montanas, Vietnamese and some fast food joints like Wendys. Including some banking around the area such as CIBC, and ATB, in the next building complex across the way with BMO and RBC about a 2-10 min drive away.
And if you're in the mood to head over to do groceries, there is Costco a few blocks away.
This theatre is specious and has recliner seating, however, be aware that when seeing IMAX movies they are compact seating with regular chairs, we saw Mario this way and although the picture and sound were killer, sitting regular with no leg room and with kids wasn't the best experience. They are a lot of seats in the IMAX room however the chairs are so close together you really have to be careful to not bump the person in front of you, our kids kept getting bumped which would cause a ripple effect.
We also experience for the first time, Screen X which was a pricey experience. Adults are $19.50 and kids are $14.50. We usually purchase our passes at Costco, things to note, you can use the Costco passes for any experience, you just have to pay the additional cost. For us to see Screen X, we used our passed roughly $68 + the additional price for the experience of $ 28. Something. For 2 Adults and 3 Kids. The Screen X experience was super cool, it immerses you when the side screens come on. However this experience only last for maybe 15-20 minutes of the movie. Not for the entire show. The seats recline, which made the experience even better. However, it's not something we would pay for again.
Moving on, they do have a good size party room and a small but family-friendly arcade.
Things to note.
Parking is huge! However if your going to a sold out show try and arrive 20 minutes before you normally would as it services to a lot of stores in the area that get busy in their own lots so people park in the theatre one.
Tuesday's are deal days, on all experiences.
You will pay a booking fee for online bookings, (not a fan of this) however it's easier than trying to go in the theatre to find out you can't get good seats and or your in normal chairs.
Costco or if you have AMA do passes that included the movie ticket and popcorn. Adults receive 1 medium bag and two drinks while children receive a small kids popcorn( smaller than the regular small popcorn) with a candy already chosen and a small ( McDonald kids meal size drink)
I never knew the theatres did different experiences other than IMAX till I looked it up on the website.
We can't wait to try D-BOX or 4DX. I will update this review once we have.
Overall 5 out of 5! I would highly recommend and the staff is...
Read moreWent with some friends and since a few of them couldn't get tickets to the movie we were going to see they decided to wait in the arcade (where they bought close to $40 worth of game tokens) they were there about 15 minutes before being asked to leave because apparently youre not allowed to be in the arcade without movie tickets (they were allowed to enter the area no problems and there are NO signs to inform anyone of this rule, and my friends thought it was a bit suspicious that they were asked to leave only after my friend started holding hands with HER girlfriend. Sounds a little like discrimination to me). We live almost two hours from this location and do not visit it often, and when we asked about refunding the tokens that they said they couldn't do that and that they had to leave. I requested to speak with a manager or supervisor(who took close to 20 minutes to actually come speak with me) and asked her about this rule that no one with us had ever heard about before, she confirmed that it was indeed correct and that they shouldn't have been allowed passed the ticket purchasing area in the first place. I then asked if they could refund the tokens that my friends were unable to use (still over $35 worth of tokens) and she said that Cineplex didn't have the authority as the arcade machines were owned by a different company. I then asked if we could have contact information for that company, and she said there was ABSOLUTELY NO WAY she could provide that information, she suggested we save them for our next visit, then I informed her that we don't live anywhere near there, and as we were extremely disappointed with how our friends were treated, didnt really think we would be returning to that particular location anytime soon. And finally asked if there was ANYTHING she could do to make the experience any better for us, and we received a very adamant no. Id like to add that I was very patient and was not screaming or yelling or swearing or causing any kind of scene, we were all extremely patient and calm and just wanted to give them the opportunity to save our experience and the chance that we would give them return business. We were talked to quite rudely and the manager didn't seem to care that we were very disappointed with the experience, not to mention that the only people in the arcade that were asked to show their tickets was a couple of girls holding hands. They were treated rudely and it seems to me discriminated against because of their sexuality. My friends and I will never return to this location, and have urged other friends and family who live in the area not to give them business either. Disgusting and unprofessional, EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. If I could rate negative...
Read moreWhat could be more atmospheric and immersive than a beautifully quiet and peaceful movie scene filled with emotion and depth, supported by the deep booming bass of a rock concert happening in the next door movie screen?
My husband and I visited this Cineplex to see the new Studio Ghibli movie - a studio that frequently has almost silent scenes to create a real sense of tranquility and immerse you in the peacefulness of its beautiful settings.
Not that that was mine and my husband's experience at all, since the entire time we felt like we were watching "step up" , the hip-hop movie at the same time. All we could here in those quiet scenes was awfully loud bass music and loud deep voices coming from the next-door movie screen, through what must be very thin walls.
This was so distracting and frustrating that we considered getting up and leaving altogether, but we stayed given we had paid to see this new film that we'd been excitedly counting down the days for.
It carried on throughout the movie but was particularly noticeable in the most atmospheric moments, and really just ruined the whole immersive experience. We don't go to the cinema often and for us we go as a treat to really be immersed in ways you can't get with a home TV. This time we wish we'd waited for the home release and just saved our money.
Cineplex Sunridge, I suggest you schedule your movies better to avoid obnoxiously loud and intrusive movies playing simultaneously next-door to artistic, more peaceful films, or invest in better walls.
We won't be coming back here...
