What an incredible experience with the Harbour Hopper in August 2025. After researching things to do in Halifax it seemed like an obvious choice. And certainly it did not disappoint.
The tour of course starts out on land, with an adventurous drive around downtown Halifax. The tour guide (Alexandra) did a fantastic job of recounting various tales and interesting tidbits about the city. She also mentioned about how the locals love to wave to the Harbour Hopper as it passes by and definitely many people did. I don't often join this kind of city tour but it was a really positive and joyful experience.
The descent into the harbour was amazing - there was some build up to make it dramatic and it definitely over-delivered.
The highlight of the experience was the tour guide mentioning about Stan Rogers and playing a short bit of Barrett's Privateers as the tour wound down to an end. Seeing the way the locals reacted to the music as we drove by was amazing. I'm from Ontario but in that moment I suddenly felt very Canadian and connected to the Maritime way of life.
Oddly (?) when booking the tickets, which are certainly not inexpensive, it also prompts you for a tip. I found this bizarre to say the least. Like why would you tip for this kind of experience before you've ever had it? I was glad to give the guide a generous tip in person at the conclusion of the tour. She did an excellent job and deserved it. Prompting for people to leave a tip as they are booking their tickets...
Read moreExcellent five-star experience. The Harbour Hopper is a one hour boat ride on a hybrid land/water boat. It was very fun and amazing learning about the history of Halifax and the story of our surrounding buildings. The tour guide was super enthusiastic and the captain did a great job. The boat itself was very nice—it could drive on land and swim on water. The tour guide taught us about the Halifax Explosion. A devastating incident in 1917 resulting in the loss of lives of many. Nearly the entirety of Northern Halifax required a rebuild. However, thanks to the help of our neighbouring provinces, we were able to rebuild. In addition to this educational experience taught by the knowledgeable tour guide, we were able to boat in the Atlantic Ocean. The level of scenery and potential for photography was through the roof. The boat also was a super clean and smooth experience, very little bumps. There were only moderate bumps entering and exiting the ocean. Therefore, I Maximum (like the speedrunner with 100K+ subscribers on YouTube) Nguyen have declared the Harbour Hopper experience a five out of five stars on Google Maps Google Reviews. I would definitely recommend paying the full price for this excellent once in a lifetime...
Read moreMe and my family went on the Harbor Hopper with Stevie as the 1st Mate and Geoff as the captain. It was absolutely marvelous and he knows the history of the land around very well and I am happy to say that he knows the FNMI true history of the people that called this place home before European contact. Stevie is a funny great tour guide that recommends things that are unique and awesome, if he gives you a recommendation you should do it as he knows his stuff. Geoff was a competent and enthusiastic captain. Me, my mom, and kids all enjoyed the entire thing. One thing I could say for Stevie as a history teacher remember that George's island was used during the Acadia displacement when the Acadians were forced out at the beginning of the 7 years war/French-Indian war depending on what you call it. Personally I call it the 7 years war that directly lead to the American...
