Delta Hotels Grand Okanagan Resort — Attraction in Kelowna

I am not sure how people are giving this hotel pretending to be a resort anything higher than 3 stars.

Save your money and go on a cruise or to Mexico for a few nights. This place is barely passing as a resort. You will not feel welcomed or relaxed when you get here.

The only comfortable feeling you get is in the lobby but once you check in the disappointment begins. They will advise you about the $30 resort fee per night and a $36 charge for parking (no other overnight parking in the area). Shockingly after asking $350-$500 a night. I don’t mind paying these prices as long as everything else felt well like a resort?

The lobby is gorgeous. I was hoping the rest of the hotel would give me the same vibe but I was wrong.

The room was small dated and cramped, clean, but nothing special.

One thing that separates the top hotels from the low end ones are the bathrooms. The bathrooms are in need of massive renovations, my tub and toilets are newer at home. It was clean but felt uncomfortable and cramped, and from the 90s. Charging these fees please update your bathrooms.

My wife felt more comfortable using the lobby washroom. Get the picture?

Other things: My rooms TV kept shutting off randomly, none of the movies worked, my fridge barely worked to keep anything cool and my food got spoiled, my shower head was leaking. Air conditioner was terribly loud.

The air conditioner is old and loud. Sleeping in an airplane is a quieter environment. Not to mention the doors to the room had a massive gap on the bottom you could hear basically anyone in the hall ways all night.

The pool and lounge area were the most disappointing. I have been to public pools in better shape. You could see the dirt accumulated on the bottom of the indoor pool. We spent a couple of hours out there, but it seemed the staff were more interested in serving drinks then keeping the area clean. The hot tub was dirty as well. The locker area washrooms were clean but old.

Lastly, The service is sub par at best. It is not a resort like service. The first time I called for service someone picked up. All the calls after that including the one about my shower head was leaking were not answered for two days. I had advised them of the shower head leak on my first interaction but no one bothered to follow up.

At the end it was an extremely disappointing couple of days at this hotel masked as a resort. Also the surrounding area and scenery did not make up for it, I left feeling disappointed and tired.

I know this is a long review but I want to be honest unlike these other reviews. I don’t want others to feel disappointed when they come here and spend their hard earned money. Instead get a top end suite at a regular hotel and you will have a much better experience, or go to Mexico or a cruise for the same price for more nights. There is nothing Grand here except your disappointment after you leave.

There is a place, at the very edge of Okanagan Lake, where dawn touches the water with gold, and the breeze carries the scent of ponderosa pine and faraway mountain rain. It is the kind of place you find yourself standing on the balcony, coffee in hand, marveling that such a view still exists within city limits.

They call it the Delta Grand Okanagan Resort.

And for a moment, with the lake lapping against the shore, and sailboats nodding in the marina like sleepy horses, you forget everything else.

🛎️ The Illusion of Grandeur

Step through the doors and you will see it: a lobby that once promised glamour but now is like a grand dame who refuses to leave the dance, corset cinched a bit too tightly, makeup cracking under the lights.

The front desk staff, though quick with “next,” seem to have misplaced the art of hospitality somewhere between check-in forms and awkwardly avoiding eye contact while you wait. You will get your key, eventually, but you will also get the distinct feeling you have imposed upon them by arriving. That are not there to help they are they to move you along.

🧹 The Quiet Heroes

But let me tell you about the cleaning staff. Ten out of ten. Rooms polished to a shine, towels folded as if they were preparing for a judging panel, and beds made with crisp corners that hint of pride and silent dedication. They are the unsung heroes here, moving quietly, transforming the out-of-date rooms into something close to comfortable.

Because the rooms are out of date, with decor that whispers of the early 2000s, and floors that carry the faint memories of many summers past. You will find yourself sighing at a squeaky hinge, a misplaced ceiling lamp in the middle of a floor with nothing under it only finding its way to hit my head daily as I try not to pay attention to it, and a thermostat that doesn’t quite listen. But each day, the cleaning staff sets the stage anew, making the best of a building that has forgotten its promise.

🌅 The Saving Grace

Then you look out the window, and the lake is right there. Sunsets spill pink and lavender across the water, and the boardwalk hums with the quiet life of a warm Okanagan evening. It is beautiful, undeniably so, and it reminds you why you came in the first place.

You walk along the marina, the lights from the city reflecting like spilled stars on the lake, and you know you will return for this view, if nothing else.

📌 Why You Go

Because the lake is still the lake, and the mountains still stand sentinel, and sometimes you can accept a dated room and a surly front desk for the chance to wake up with the Okanagan’s beauty in full view, coffee in hand, grateful for a cleaning staff that knows how to keep a promise even when the building cannot.

I want to acknowledge the great customer service afforded to my wife and I on our last stay at the Delta Grand Okanagan Resort in Kelowna, BC.

On Sunday, April 7th, the Desk Clerk, Haniel (sp?) checked us into our room, quietly and efficiently. Upon entering our room, we found it messy and in a mild state of disarray: the couch was pulled away from the wall, crowding the now crumpled area rug; telephone cables and power cords lay tangled, under an end table; the telephone wasn't working nor was another dust covered rechargeable phone nearby on the end table; and the floor behind the couch was quite dusty and dirty. It looked like someone was trying to get a working phone for the room, but left before finishing the job.

We were disappointed with the state of our room and tired after a long travel day, so we unpacked and went out for supper at a nearby restaurant.

Before returning to our room, I returned to the Reception Desk and asked Haniel to see about getting the phone repaired and also told him about the unkempt state of our room. After a few more questions, he thought it appropriate to consult with his Manager on how best to proceed.

The evening Manager, Nicholas (Nick), attended promptly and offered us another room, but as we had already unpacked, changing rooms that late in the evening wasn't our first choice.

Nick came to our room to have a look for himself and agreed that the room's condition wasn't suitable for guest occupancy. To remedy this issue, Nicholas said the phone repair might take some time so we could change rooms if we changed our minds. He also arranged for: Housekeeping staff to thoroughly clean the room on Monday morning; Maintenance staff to arrange for the room's telephone to be repaired ASAP; and the Hotel to provide a complimentary dinner for the two of us on Monday evening. NB - our dinner was truly a memorable, fine dining experience!

My wife and I want to acknowledge the efforts of the Staff and Managers who worked to effectively turn our disappointing room check-in into a positive hotel stay, including a 5-star meal at the on site Oak + Cru Restaurant.

We also want to recognize the strong customer satisfaction efforts and positive, service orientation of the front end staff (Haniel) and Manager (Nick); the Housekeeping staff (Basinder (sp?) & Gushig (sp?)); and the very helpful Oak + Cru staff member, Ciara.
