Longtime favourite, however disappointed by recent changes.
Iāve been visiting Candy Bear Lair in Jasper for as long as I can remember. It was always a highlight of our trips. A charming little shop with an incredible selection of house made chocolates that felt truly special. We would look forward to it every time we came to town.
Unfortunately, our most recent visit left us disappointed. The selection of chocolate has noticeably shrunk, and the shop seems to be shifting more toward a general candy store feel. While thereās nothing inherently wrong with that, itās lost the warm, distinctive atmosphere it used to have. Walking in this time, it felt like a completely different place.
With another excellent candy shop just down the street, itās disheartening to see Candy Bear Lair moving away from what made it unique. If Iām looking for candy, there are other options, but it was the handcrafted chocolate treats that made this place stand out.
I truly hope to see a return to what made Candy Bear Lair such a memorable...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEdited: Very sad to be changing my review. As my old review below says I've been coming here since I was a kid. On our annual trip this year me and my family were very disappointed to see the new owners basically took 50% of what made Candy Bears Lair what is was to so many people. Alot of the chocolate is gone. When you walk in it doesnt smell the same, the chocolatier smell is gone, and the popular chocolates are still there but they do not taste or look the same, I still spent $50 regardless in hopes they still tasted the same but they are definitely missing something - or not being made the same. I hope the new owners are able to overcome this, and possibly contact the old owners for some training on how the old Candy Bears Lair made their classic chocolates or I can see this business loosing alot of old time visitors and customers over this. Very unfortunate.
Old: Have been going here since I was a kid, same great tasting chocolate & treats, i always make sure I come here...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was so glad to see The Candy Bear Lair survived the wildfire. I'm sad to be making a negative review for a place I used to love so much. I used go out of my way to stop here, even if we were just driving by Jasper. First I was sad to see the new reno removed all the character that this little store used to have. It has completely lost its quant small town local vibe. The homemade confections display is less than 1/3 what it used to be. I think it might only be 1/5 or 1/6 of what it used to offer. But the worst part is that the few treats they still make in store are no where close to the taste, quality, or size they used to be. The recipes and chocolate are not the same. I honestly want to support any local Jasper business, but I doubt I will be back. Staff were pleasant and provided...
