Stay away from this racist and discriminatory hostel, especially based on the treatment that I received today by its assistant general manager, Dylan. I had a reservation here for a private room for few nights and my train arrived into Jasper before check in time. I asked for a bathroom to shower and to store my luggage afterwards and Dylan specifically told me to use 2nd floor bathroom and didn’t tell me that there were alternative bathrooms nor did he offer me other options. Unfortunately, second floor bathroom was already occupied by a girl who denied me use of the bathroom and I had to wait for more than 40 minutes sitting on the floor till she got out. When I called her out on her bad behaviour, the girl went down, twisted the story, and accused me of “assaulting” her based on no evidence or witnesses of what happened. The girl slammed the door on my arm and face, my glasses fell down on the floor and almost broke (I am visually impaired and cannot see without my glasses), and accused me of “assaulting” with a water bottle that I was holding to my face to protect it from her arms. Yes, you have read it right. For reference, I am 95 lbs and 5’3 while she was a much bigger person (taller and at least 2-3x my weight). Disappointingly, Dylan took her side and didn’t even bother to come up and talk to me and hear my side. He denied me service and cancelled my reservation with no proof or grounds to back up their claims. I was shocked that he was unable to handle a situation between to guests and called the police. Imagine two police officers coming to the hostel because the manager didn’t know how to deal with two girls in a bathroom situation. Completely ridiculous and I definitely felt sorry for the police officers who had to waste their time to come to the hostel for this. The case was closed and police couldn’t do anything anyways, as even if this was taken to court, there is no evidence or CCTV recording. I definitely wished there was CCTV recording inside the sauna room so they could see how the other girl pushed my petite body against the wall. Dylan cancelled my reservation for no reason or proof or evidence of what they were claiming against me. He refused to explain and answer me when I asked for justification and only said vague things like “because of assault” but when I asked him for evidence, camera recording, or witnesses of this said “assault”, he obviously couldn’t answer and told me to just leave. Overall, I am completely saddened by the unfair, racist, and discriminatory treatment that I received at HI Hostel Jasper and specifically by its assistant general manager, Dylan. I was punished and falsely accused based on no evidence or proof and the other girl involved completely got away with it. He decided to listen and believe her just because she was the first one who went down and complain, and she had all the time to twist the story and make Dylan and police officers think that she was the innocent one here. Do not stay here if you are of ethnic and/or religious minority; you will suffer from the discrimination at this establishment. Also, do not stay here if you think management is going to be fair and care about your opinion, knowing the truth or asking for your side of the story if you get involved in a disagreement with another guest. They will believe what they want to believe. As a Muslim Arab woman, I felt completely unwelcome at this hostel, was discriminated against, and denied service under no ground or proof. Dylan or the hostel’s management could reply to this and say whatever they want, but the truth is that they have no evidence or CCTV recording to back their claim against me and their decision to deny me service and cancel my reservation. Luckily, I realised that their private rooms are overpriced for what they offer and found that there are several alternative accommodation options with much better location and amenities. Also, the management at the other establishment I am staying at in Jasper aren’t racist. So perhaps this whole thing was a blessing in disguise? :)

I stayed at HI Jasper for two nights at the beginning of August 2019 in a 4 bed female dorm. The hostel was brand new, modern, beautiful and clean and located just across the train tracks right outside the town of Jasper on the edge of a forested area. The large hostel was newly built earlier in the summer. It was situated just a short distance on the edge of town (about a 10 minute walk from town) across the busy train tracks (there is a pedestrian walkway that leads underneath the tracks so you don’t have to wait when there are frequent trains), where there are restaurants, shops and services. The hostel faced a beautiful forested area and looked out to the mountains. The hostel had a modern and minimalist design and was very spacious. It felt quite luxurious for a hostel and looked more like a nice hotel. I was really impressed with the facilities! There was a large lounge area with lots of seating, couches, games, fireplace, and a separate TV/movie room with comfy chairs and a big screen TV which was awesome. It was a great place to relax after a long day of exploring. There was also a large communal kitchen. In the lobby, there were large windows with views of the scenery outside, couches, a fireplace and a small café that was open for breakfast and lunch. There were also some seating areas outside the hostel by the entrance. The Wi-Fi was fast and reliable throughout the hostel. I especially liked that the hostel had a large parking lot for guests, as street parking can be difficult to find in town during tourist season, so this was an added bonus. There is limited parking in the lot though and not enough spaces for everyone. During my stay, they were working on landscaping the areas around the building, so it was a bit muddy and messy looking, which is to be expected. There was also an elevator to the dorms upstairs but it was not in working order yet, so I received a discount on my stay because of this. I stayed in a 4 bed female dorm which was on the second floor. I was given a swipe card for the door when I checked in. From the hallway, you entered the shared bathroom area with separate shower, toilet and sinks which was shared by two dorms and doors leading to each dorm from the washroom area. I liked having the separate washroom area to get ready early in the morning without disturbing anyone in the dorms. The dorm was small but didn’t feel too crowded. The metal bunk beds had comfortable mattresses, pillows and warm blanket and each bed had its own charging outlet, lamp and shelf. There were decent sized metal lockers in the dorm as well. I met some friendly women in my dorm as well and everyone was respectful.Though there is a busy train track behind the hostel, I managed to get a really good sleep without being woken by any train noises. Bring ear plugs just in case though. I felt safe staying at this hostel as a solo female traveler. The key card was needed to access the stairway to the dorms as well as to your room after entering the shared washroom area. All areas of the hostel were spotlessly clean. I didn’t participate in any organized activities or tours through the hostel and they didn’t have any evening social events for guests. I found that most people stuck to themselves or with their group, and there wasn’t too much of a social vibe, although I did meet some nice women in my dorm. I would absolutely recommend this hostel and would love to stay here again on a future visit to the area. I really enjoyed my experience and have no complaints!

The place has nice modern furnishings. The -3 stars are because they don't have reasonable ventilation or cooling in rooms and the rooms are incredibly compact. There was around 3x1 metres of space for the four of us to handle our bags and move about. If it's a warm day, expect to be sleeping at night in rooms with 30 Celsius temperatures and high humidity making it incredibly uncomfortable to be there. The next morning, everyone in the tour group spread across multiple rooms reported being very sleep deprived because of the issues with very hot rooms. It was the second Hi Hostel we stayed in after Banff which had next to no ventilation and resulted in being very sleep deprived. If you want more than 2-4 hours of sleep, avoid Hi Hostels at all costs. I'm updating this after checking into one of Hi Hostel's competitors in Banff who offer similar room prices. This competing hostel actually made an effort to safeguard its guests by providing a dehumidifier, a fan for each bed, and much more space in the room. Learn from this Hi Jasper and do better.

I had the perfect stay this weekend. It was my first time at their new location near downtown Jasper, and my experience was wonderful. It started with me showing up in the morning and asking if it were possible they'd let me check in early. Usually check-in is after 4pm. Manager Cecile was very friendly and accommodating while she set me up with with a room with a mountain view. She also did this for our friends who arrived shortly afterwards.

All staff were very friendly throughout our two day stay, but most of our interactions were with Emma at the Cafe and Manager Cecile at front desk. Always friendly and helpful. Emma went the extra mile during our morning coffee by providing us with a map which she marked off some great lakes and hikes to visit. She helped start off a great day for us :)

I highly recommend this Hostel for your stay in Jasper. Choices range from bunked/shared rooms to private rooms with private bathroom. The facility is new, clean, and quiet. A very short walk to downtown and many trails for cycling and hiking. A large modern and clean kitchen, and huge common areas where you can connect with laptop, or shoot a game of billiards.

Staff were always seen cleaning and disinfecting all over the property. The Cafe attached had excellent coffee with snacks, wraps, alcoholic beverages, etc....The Coffee was great so you need not waste your time hunting around Jasper for a cup. And if you're lucky you'll get to meet Emma if she's on shift :)

All in all this place is an excellent choice to stay at while you spend time in the Jasper area. Their choice of Manager and staff is what I think really sets this place apart from others. This is just the start of the wonderful experience.

If you're new to staying at Hostels, or a seasoned pro please make sure you are cleaning up after yourselves and follow the rules respectfully. A big part of the great experience in a Hostel is that we all do our part in keeping the place clean and safe. Leaving big messes for others and staff is not...
