Unfortunately, my experience at Sherlock's Escapes on October 6th was highly disappointing. As a former manager of a well reputed escape room company, I know how the business works and was extremely disappointed with the service and experience we got.
Our experience started off with a Game Host's very shaky delivery of the backstory. This particular Game Host had a clipboard with the backstory and was practically reading it the entire time. During our actual time in the room, a few things were out of place. First, some duct tape was left in an area that had previously held a clue. Our Game Host informed us of that. This undoubtedly left us thinking a clue was missing. Secondly, a singular key was left in a maze. Upon asking our Game Host if this was done on purpose, he simply replied ''Yea, that was just left there''.
After whizzing through the rooms and escaping, my team members and myself felt as though the entire experience was very anti-climactic. We were left wondering what had happened to Sherlock and Watson as our mission was to rescue them. We therefore asked our Game Host what the end of the story was and he nonchalantly answered ''oh, it's because there's actually another room that you're supposed to go through but it's too much of a hassle to clean''.
The Game Host then said ''if you don't have any questions, you can leave because I have to clean''. We left the premises having felt as if we were robbed of the entire experience.
As a former manager of an escape room company, here is how I suggest Sherlock's Escapes better their experiences: Ensure all Game Hosts are trained proficiently before delivering back stories Ensure all rooms are checked before customers enter, removing any props or materials that are unnecessary or have been changed Ensure Game Hosts believe the offered experience is worth the price and that the latter have an answer to the story plot Ensure Game Hosts leave the customers on a high Reduce pricing if the whole experience is not offered
As such, I am left with one final question: why did my team members and I have to pay full price for an altered, reduced and shortened...
Read moreHeard they were closing so I came back to do their newest room Inspectors Gambit. Unfortunately escape rooms have advanced by quite a bit and Sherlock just doesn't meet the minimum standard these days.
The room was sparsely decorated and puzzle props were well used and crude sometimes. You could tell they were made in-house and not very precise.
Unfortunately several red herrings were left in the room, either intentionally or perhaps part of other previous puzzles since removed. The final lock's solution was so out of left field even the gamemaster admitted it. Credit to them tho, they maintained the same level of service even though it was the last weekend.
Anyways it was good knowing ya Sherlock but it was time to say goodbye.
Did the Doctors Redemption room. Nice and bright inside, which I appreciated. Almost all puzzles do not have any tech components to them, but were alright nonetheless.
The last puzzle was interesting and a nice surprise. But could have made it even more physically challenging by adding more sensors.
It requires a minimum of three players to play the room, but don't see why. Two players could physically complete all the puzzles. In fact, if more than 4 players are in your group then I would say it would be severely cramped in there, and many of the players would be standing around with not...
Read moreHave been to many escape rooms before and never experienced so many problems. The room started off good but could have been made much better by making it more challenging with the lights off. Then once making it to the third and final room, there were technical problems continuously happening! After struggling for at least 10 minutes we called for help, and it was a technical problem, so once fixed, we continued.. and once again it happened... and again. We had solved the room, but needed to pass to escape, with these technical issues it became extremely frustrating. Eventually we were able to reset once again and escape the room. We were then never told if we made it within the 60 minutes(which I believe we did). This was a complete waste of our time and money. We all understand that sometimes you cant help technology problems, but it should not have happened 4 times in a row!! At least the clock could have been stopped during these times, since we would have made a record time. A refund or a voucher to complete another room would have been nice considering how...
