This place was so good that I remembered about the experience two months later, and I decided to leave a five star review after I had forgotten to do so after leaving the restaurant. That alone should be a signal to eat here.
Anyways, we should talk about the experience, and we will start with the beginning. Walking into the establishment wasn't anything too special. It felt a little crammed, but they had as much space between the tables as they could. It is a pretty small seating area, so they are doing the best with what they have. I imagine it is more well-suited for an evening date than an afternoon lunch with your brother; however, after settling in for a couple of minutes, the restaurant felt very cozy.
I can not remember our waiters name, but he paid excellent attention to us.
Next, we gotta talk about the bread. THE STARTER BREAD IS SO GOOD. I don't know if they bake fresh in store or buy local but I don't care. I kept thinking to ask for more bread, but I had to save room for my apps and entree.
After lauding about the bread to myself, we had our appetizers: bruschetta and spanikopita(?). The bruschetta tasted like I what I hope every bruschetta tastes like; namely buttery, a bit of kick from the onions and garlic, and the wonderful note that basil provides. The spanikopita, while it tasted phenomenal, was made with what seemed like some kind of phyllo pastry dough and it was a little to dry and crumbly for my taste.
To finish off, we closed with the entrees. My brother had the Pastito and I ordered the Mousaka. We each shared a bite of each other's dish and agreed that the Mousaka was the better of the two. And boy oh boy was it ever scrumptious. I took a risk with not being the biggest fan of eggplant, and the reward was one of the better dishes I have eaten, especially because it didn't taste like restaurant cooking; it tasted like it came from your grandmother's kitchen (if your granny happened to be an A-Tier Greek cuisine artist).
All in all, Grecos smashed the first impression, and I will try to go back whenever I'm...
Read moreI had a friend visiting from out of town a couple of weeks ago. We were downtown and searched for restaurant options and we eventually decided on Greco's. I had never been before but one of my sisters raved about it so we went. I ordered the Pastitsio as I have had it in other Greek restaurants and have also made my own at hone and I like it very much. When I got my meal it was cold. I first tasted the rice, it was mushy and stuck together (over cooked, cold) and it had no flavour. I then tried the Pastitsio and it too was mushy and cold, I could not taste any flavour in the Pastitsio including the cinnamon or nutmeg, 2 spices used in this recipe. There was also no visibility or taste of the meat or the bechamel topping for this recipe. It looked and tasted like penne pasta only (dried pueck on a plate). The salad was limited in ingredients (lettuce, 2 slices of onion, a slice of tomato, a slice of cucumber and dressing. The lemon potatoes were good but cold. I basically ate 1 fork of rice, 2 forks of pastitsio, 3/4 of my salad and 2 lemon potatoes. When the waiter asked me if I liked my meal I told him the truth. It was very clear I did not like my meal by the quantity remaining on my plate. He asked if I wanted to order something else I said no (since I was already turned off by my meal). When he brought our bill he told me he had to charge me the full price since I refused a replacement meal. I will never go back. Like I knew I had replace my meal, especially since I was already turned off by their menu based on the meal I could not eat. So I left having to pay for a meal I didn't like, and also hungry. Wish I had taken a photo of my disgusting meal for...
Read moreIm not one to post a review usually and never to comment on someone else’s. However I am appalled at the review by the gentleman that said that this restaurant is over priced and that the food was salty and bland . First of all how can you have bland food with no taste if your overwhelmed with a spice at the same time. Secondly its not salt its dill its a greek restaurant. Lastly since when is $27 expensive for a dish at a fine dining establishment ?The lamb shank is what you ordered by the looks of things and is one of their signature dish and one of the reasons why you usually need reservations to even be seated. Its fall off the bone tender and full of flavour. I had the same dish in Las Vegas at Hells Kitchen and it didnt come anywhere close to how much i enjoy it at Grecos . Either way your entitled to your opinion… opinions are just like….. well everyone has one . My whole family has been enjoying the quality and care that the owner and chef has been putting into his dishes consistently time after time .In the ten years that ive been going there ive never seen anyone but him cooking . He is there every single day which is amazing to me but ensures that the quality is amazing every single time you go! Please dont diservice yourself by reading the review i am commenting about … if you dont try Grecos youll be missing a great...
