I've been coming here for years and years (both dine-in and delivery) because it's always been the best Indian restaurant in Ottawa. I don't know what happened, if they got a new chef or changed their recipes or it's something to do with their new plastic takeout containers or what, but when I ordered last night it definitely was not the best anymore. They used to make thick, creamy curries, but when we ordered curries last night we got soups instead. It was the thinnest curry I've ever had, just watery and disappointing, like all the cheaper Indian places in Ottawa that I try to avoid. I've had their paneer and mushroom vindaloo countless times, and what I got last night was absolutely not what I've expected in the past. It was more like a few mushrooms floating in spicy water. I hope they change back to the food they used to make, which was always delicious and satisfying. With the quality of the food that I received last night, I'm not sure I'll be coming back.
Edit: You can take the gentle criticism of a loyal customer to heart, or you can try and gaslight me by saying "our vindaloo has always been that way". I can assure you it hasn't been, and if you had actually read my review, you'd address the fact that I was comparing your new watery vindaloo to your old tasty one. If this is the restaurant's way of dealing with feedback, I guess I got my answer: I simply will stop spending my money at your restaurant if you're telling me that this far worse dish is what I should expect...
Read moreIndian Curry and Kabab House is a new chef owned restaurant in Ottawa. I have eaten at a lot of Indian restaurants, but this chef blew me away and I have to say that this is maybe best Indian food I've ever eaten! It's evident in every bite that everything used to make each dish was specifically selected for freshness. Their Butter Chicken was to die for - chicken was juicy and perfectly cooked, and sauce was full of flavour! The sauce was also luxurious and thick - perfect with rice and naan. We tried a few things (Delhi ki Nali Nehari - slow cooked lamb shank and Delhi Masala; Beef Tikka Kababs, Butter Chicken, Naan, and Parantha - which is like Naan but whole wheat with mint) and all were incredible! Their menu offers choices that suite anyone - whether you're vegetarian, watching calories, love spices, or don't - there's something for everyone. Most dishes can be made to suite your level of spice/heat tolerance, which was great news for me since I can't handle spice, and my boyfriend loves it!
The price is also right at this restaurant - it's a great deal for the level of quality. I was blown away by the presentation of their dishes as well - especially the unique mini tandoor oven for the kababs that keeps them warm! Beautiful! The restaurant is also in a fantastic location, right in the Byward Market and close to everything in Ottawa. I'll definitely be returning again soon and would love to try the lunch buffet!
I highly recommend to give this new...
Read moreOut of all Indian restaurants i have tried in Ottawa, this Restaurant holds its special position. They have good buffet, but I'm not fond of buffets; too many choices kill my apetite! I usually order from this Restaurant for takeouts. Skipthedishes will deliver your order.
Best delicious dishes:
Nihari -- you must try this, but be prepared to cry. This dish will even made a tiger cry. Hot & Spicy. Meat(beef) cooked and simmered for about 6-7 hrs. The juices will leave your mouth watery and nose running. A natural remedy if you got that annoying cold n flu. Have it with naan. And, just naan. You don't mix this with rice. 🙄
Sheek Kebab -- These are just tender pieces of meat that will melt in your mouth. The meat cut is expensive and so is this dish. ☻ Worth every penny though. Don't forget to ask for minty yogurt chutney that goes with this dish. Squeeze a fresh lemon slice on top, spread some chutney, and let your hands and mouth do the rest.
Alright, this one is more of an appetizer, and consumed as a gourmet, or on special occasions... such as, when it rains, or on a date. It's like having poutine--but entirely different dish. It is hot & spicy, sweet &sour, causing tingling-sensation on your tongue, leaving you screaming for Coca-Cola or ur favourite drink. 🤣😂 Caution: Not for those who can't handle spicy stuff. 🙄
I'd have given it 5 out of 5 if they make the prices a bit more realistic. I find the Indian restaurants(most) to...
