The only kind of dessert this shop sells is chiffon cake and they'e $8.25 - 8.50+ GST per slice. Saw a table with drinks but we didn't see a menu for it. Overall experience was mixed.
We tried: Matcha Red Bean Chiffon Cake Signature Rose Lychee Chiffon Cake
Pros: Flavour - Matcha flavour was excellent. The sweetness is more subtle so you can really taste the nice bitter aroma coming from the tea. We didn't really taste much red bean flavour at all, which was good for us. I think it was supposed to be from the lower layer of cream.
Environment - The staff are friendly and the shop is very aesthetic, reminding me of the interiors of Spiritea. They also use very cute dishes and cutlery: Pink and white plates with gold trim edges and golden metal forks.
Cons:
Flavour - The lychee had real lychee fruit in it, but that's the only part that had lychee flavour. We struggled to find any trace of rose or lychee flavour in the breading and cream. It was disappinting because I had a very deliciously rosey hot chocolate from Bel Café earlier this week, which increased my excitement and expectation. Also, people were probably hyping up this flavour because no other cake shop sells rose lychee flavour.
Texture - The breading tastes somewhat like a sponge cake, similar to the birthday cakes sold by Chinese bakeries. If you like this texture then you should give this place a try. Personal preference in this category.
Presentation - So sad they gave me a poorly cut piece of lychee cake or a cake that was not made well. The cut sides were not very appetizing to look at. I expected better for the amount I'm paying. Good thing the matcha came out decently.
We couldn't see a menu anywhere. People have drinks on their tables, but we had no idea what the shop offers and the pricing of anything. We only knew about the cake prices because we asked before we made the purchase. Didn't bother to ask about the drinks after we already sat down.
Price - I think it is too expensive for the quality. It's not up to par with my favourite cakes from Trafiq, L'Opera Patisserie, La Forêt, and Thierry, which offer way better tasting cakes and are extremely popular artisan shops. Trafiq's portions are much bigger and flavourful for a similar or slightly lower price.
Overall, there were goods and bads about the place. Matcha taste was great, but I'd much rather get a matcha cake from L'Opera for both flavour and texture. Perhaps we'll try it one more time after a while to see if anything...
Read moreAwesome Dessert Place! Definitely high quality ( the cakes are made fresh daily, no cakes are kept overnight and sold next day )! Decor is very Chic and elegant.
Came here on late night Saturday, it was close to closing time, the staff member was super nice and accommodating and offered us take out on what they had in store. I didn’t get to try their signature lychee rose cake since it was late in the day and they were sold out=(
I ordered the Matcha Red Bean chiffon cake and also got to try the Black Sesame Chiffon cake. Here are my thoughts on the cakes.
Matcha Red Bean Chiffon: The cream was very light with only a hint of sweetness. The matcha flavor was more on the subtle side, without overpowering the taste of fresh cream. It almost taste like matcha cream candy!!!! The red bean flavour was more muted, but that is expected since its there to complement the matcha flavor. The texture of the chiffon cake layer was light, fluffy and airy. Definitely well made with care!
Black Sesame Chiffon: Similar to Matcha Chiffon Cake, the flavor of the Black Sesame cake was more on the subtle side, but it tasted good regardless. They even decorated the cake with their own specialty macaron!!
Will definitely come back to try some more cake flavors!! Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for good dessert in Richmond, greatly place to chill with family...
Read more4th time trying, changed to 3 star from my initial 5 star, I really wanted to like this place
Ordered a Lychee Rose Birthday cake, didnt have any rose pedals on or inside of the cake (I’ve tried it many times and I know how it should taste/look like), also agree on other comments about the cream leaving an oily buttery taste in my mouth. My biggest disappointment is about the decorations on the cake - left the cake in the fridge overnight and all the decorative items and the cream melted and became watery & soggy - it’s so gross that I have to remove all the cream on the outer layer before eating it, never had this issue with any cakes before.
1st time 5 star Love the lychee & rose cake, soft and not too sweet. Mango cake was pretty average, still tasted good. The time I went they didn’t have a price listed for the cakes, and neither a menu for the drinks. It was kind of confusing and unclear. But I guessed they just opened, so it’s understandable. Will definitely come back for their cakes in the future
2nd time 4 star Update: went back the second time after a month, still no price shown for the cakes and no menu for the teas. So I am going to change my rating from 5 to 4 because I do want to know the price before ordering and prefer not to ask...
