As much as I agree about the comfort of the seats and hospitality of the crew, the movies showing regularly leave much to be desired. They are basically 45 advertisements for various industries. Of the current selection, only the Arctic: Our Frozen Planet, actually provided new information and educational value. The Trolley, was also interesting from a historical perspective, but in the end was little more than an ad for modern trolley systems and builders. I certainly hope the quality of these films will improve over time, and the IMAX will start importing movies that are of a better creative and educational value. I was particularly disappointed by the Superhuman Body flick. Based on the advertising it appeared to be a movie that showed the intricacies and of the human body and went into detail about how science is engineering body parts that mimic human capabilities. I thought the camera would be showing us the inner workings of such creations. Instead a good half of the flick was crowd shots, or a guy sitting alone on surfboard, or happy smiling faces of people in a small place where one retired doctor lives. This movie did not reflect the advertising at all. Over all, the IMAX experience is child-like, big is better, holy wow type, shock and awe, which would be much better if the contents of the flicks shown added up to be something better than advertising for one...
ย ย ย Read moreWent to see the Bowie documentary "Moonage Daydream" and had a great time except at the end when the IMax voice-over came on too soon which disrupted the mood. I understand and appreciate the need to remind people to check around for their belongings, where the garbage bins are and where to exit - it's very helpful and necessary. But for a documentary like this, the announcement could've come on a little bit later - credits aren't just the end of a movie, they help the audience transition back into the world. People need a few moments to resurface from this sort of immersive experience before being shooed away from the theatre. Popcorn was very good - not overly salted and the "buttery topping" was surprisingly good (no weird textures or flavours). At the self-serve island while getting napkins I noticed they had a lot of seasonings available if you like...
ย ย ย Read moreLove The IMax but hate the Popcorn price increase. Today we watched The Lemurs of Madagascar after just renewing our season passes. Such a heartwarming movie about efforts to save them on the Island of Madagascar, the only place on earth that has a wild population. Sadly as I went to purchase my usual large popcorn and 2 fountain drinks for around $15.00 or less with membership, my jaw dropped when that option was missing and two medium popcorns with two drinks skyrocketed to over $20.00. Yup, I wonโt be partaking in that next time. Even two small popcorns and drinks for kids was up in the 15.00 range if I recall correctly. I think season pass holders will be skipping the popcorn offerings at these ridiculous new prices. And I do think they make the best popcorn in town. Sad...
