COMPLAINT: SECURITY GUARD MISCONDUCT
I was at the One Twelve Campus building for the first time a couple of days ago as a customer at the cafe. I went to bathroom when I was leaving at about 4:30pm (cafe closes at 5). The bathroom is not in the cafe - it is through the lobby, in the hallway tucked in a corner. When I reached the bathroom door, the security guard who I did not realize had been following me spoke to me getting my attention. He asked me if I worked in the building. I asked him why he was asking me that. He told me that it was his job to ask that and to just answer the question. Right prior to that moment, he had gotten right in my face at the bathroom door. I literally took a few steps past him into the open area to give myself more room. That was an obvious aggressive move on his part and what some people would consider threatening. I told him that I was a customer at the cafe. I was very annoyed and agitated, and asked him again why he would ask me that. I told him he had no right to ask me that. That bathroom is a public bathroom for customers and clients of the businesses in that building. He then told me to not communicate with him in an angry way. This irritated me even more because up to that point, I had shown no anger even though I had every right to. I was definitely angry inside. But I made sure to remain calm up to that point not for him but for me. I didn't want to stoop to that level. I told him to not tell me how to communicate with him. I asked him if he asks everyone when they go to the bathroom if they work in the building. He said he does (which I know is a lie and I told him so). And how come he didn't ask me the previous two times I walked by him to use the bathroom if I worked in the building? I pointed out to him those couple other times I walked by him to use the bathroom while he was sitting at the security desk in the lobby. Him and I made eye contact multiple times through the window while I was in the cafe and he was outside in front of the building. I also told him that the cafe closes at 5pm. He told me it was 5pm. I told him to check his watch. He did, it was 4:35pm at the time. (I later saw on Google that the building itself closes at 6pm which tells me that other companies in the building are probably servicing clients/customers right to 6pm, probably.) He continued on giving me a hard time. I eventually let him see me angry for real and told him that he was really pissing me off now. As I opened the bathroom door to use the bathroom, he told me he was going to lock me in and call the police. I told him to go ahead. After using the bathroom (the single bathroom with the door for me to lock because the cleaning staff was cleaning the main men's bathroom further down the hall) I went back to the cafe to let the owner of the cafe know what happened. I then exited the building out the main doors in the lobby (they were not locked and there were no police waiting for me).
This man was extremely unprofessional; and that is a huge understatement. I do not know why he decided to harass me.
I will be calling Rohit tomorrow to find out the name of the security company that he works with - I was told that Rohit owns and manages the building. I will inform them as well about what happened. In the heat of the moment, I totally let it slip my mind to take note of the company the security guard works with and get some sort of identification number from him. It would have been good to get my phone out and take video of our communication as well.
I doubt that the owner/manager of the building and the security company condones that sort of behaviour and conduct from one of their security guards.
That security guard should obviously be disciplined for this, whether it be something temporary or termination. It should not be hard for those he answers to to piece together the details if there are cameras in that hallway, which I am sure...
Read moreI used to ride the train regularly. Now since the commissionaires have replaced transit police I no longer feel safe enough to ride public transit. Lots of homeless individuals in the transit stations and lots of violent people that nothing seems to be getting done about it. People smoking cigarettes inside the transit stations, leaving garbage everywhere and the commissionaires just stare at it and do nothing. My girlfriend and I rode the metro line from Macewan to churchill and a man with a bike got on. It was only the 3 of us on the train and somehow the man came to the conclusion that my girlfriend and I were laughing at him when we weren't saying anything. He started screaming at us that he was going to kill us and to put our hands up. Luckily the train stopped at churchill just in time to get out untouched. The man got out after us and left the station. I told the guard what had happened and he had only shrugged his shoulders and said that if it happens again to file a report. Super useless. Bring transit...
Read moreHow can you feel safe when the guards who are supposed to patrol and be active on shift are on phone always watching reels and social media! Location: Century Park LRT One guy broke the enclosure glass and was behaving violently, I was searching for the security and someone told me that he is standing near the convenience store inside LRT, I called him several times but he didn’t respond at all, then i went closely and saw he had earbuds on both the ears and was watching videos! seriously? After that day i started observing him everyday, he is always on phone standing at different corners of station. Safety is a joke under these kind of people. I am sure there are many deserving candidates who want to perform the duty with dedication...
