An absolutely stunning view of the mountains. This bridge was built by the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) in 1891 on a railroad spur line to serve a coal mine. The old rail spur is now the Bow River Loop Trail. The loop around the bow river is a great trail to enjoy the views and take in some fresh air. It’s a beautiful backdrop for pictures. You can see peaks like Ha Ling and Miner’s Peak in view, the bridge has an amazing landscape of Canmore. The bridge itself is stunning and it’s quite historical. Also It has also become a filming location for the TV series “The Last of Us,” Despite the show’s U.S. setting, the series was exclusively shot in Canada, with episode six highlighting Canmore’s charm and the iconic railway bridge. There are many entry points to the trail,these are the four most popular start points. • Riverside Park – suitable for wheelchair and pushchair access • The Engine Bridge Via Spurline Trail – suitable for wheelchair and pushchair access • Bow River Bridge – suitable for wheelchair and pushchair access • Riverview Place The Bow River Trail is a very well-maintained pathway that is along the banks of the Bow River, offering views of the river loop surrounding mountains and lush forests. Don’t rush the stroll, we took our time. Again it’s great for a leisurely stroll and or bike ride. And it’s dog-friendly, Easy to walk along with wheelchairs and strollers. It’s busier during the early day and parking wasn’t too hard to find. Canmore Engine Bridge is not just a bridge; it’s a journey through history and adventure. From its historical roots to its unique architectural features and its truly a Canmore icon.

Peaceful, Scenic, and Rich in History – A Perfect Stop in Canmore I stumbled upon the Canmore Engine Bridge during a morning walk and was completely taken by surprise. This historic bridge, originally built for trains servicing the coal mining industry, now stands as a quiet and picturesque pedestrian pathway. The surrounding area is breathtaking — you're right alongside the Bow River, with crystal-clear water reflecting the majestic Three Sisters and other surrounding peaks. The walk to the bridge is very easy, making it accessible for all ages and fitness levels. Whether you're a local or just visiting, it’s the kind of place where you’ll want to slow down and take in the beauty. I saw cyclists, joggers, dog walkers, and families all enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. The bridge itself is a fantastic photo spot, especially at sunrise or sunset. You get a stunning contrast between the rusted steel of the old railway structure and the natural alpine beauty around it. There are also a few benches nearby where you can sit and just enjoy the sounds of the river and birds. Highly recommend visiting if you're in Canmore. It’s a slice of quiet history surrounded by some of the most gorgeous scenery Alberta has to offer.

What a wonderful sorted of off the beaten path. Canmore felt like a normal small town although there are many in progress of vacation homes going on. I see many folks with dogs (assuming locals) walking this trail. The trail is still slushy in some part and muddy from all the melted, icy snow. But if you have proper shoes, you'll enjoy the trail even more. The beginning of the trail path is sandwich in the back alley of residential area but I enjoyed some interesting sight along the way like the "dog library ", beautiful homes, etc They have many benches along the river where you can sit and take in the beautiful emerald green river water, chat or just people watching. Trail is flat, super easy to walk. Great for biking as well.
