We came here after a great round of disc golf on a beautiful day, excited to grab a bite and enjoy the rest of my birthday with friends. Sadly, this restaurant ended up being the worst part of the day.

Our waitress seemed fine at first, she brought our drinks and took our food orders, but then she totally disappeared. As a very observant Deaf person, I noticed groups who arrived after us were getting their meals while we were still waiting. More groups came and were served full meals, while we had nothing. It was clear we’d been forgotten.

Despite our visible signing and attempts to signal for help, our waitress never checked in or updated us. Eventually, she came back and started flapping her mouth at us quickly, even though it was obvious we’re Deaf. There was no attempt to write things down or communicate clearly. We barely caught something about the kitchen mixing up our order and were told the food would be out soon.

That “soon” turned into nearly two hours. More people came, ate, and left, and we still had nothing. We finally flagged down someone else, possibly a manager. He looked both embarrassed and frustrated, then quickly disappeared into the kitchen.

When the food finally showed up, five out of six meals were stone cold. Only one was served hot. By then, the entire mood had collapsed. Most of us couldn’t even finish our food. The waitress returned looking nervous and rushed through the receipts. We made it clear we weren’t paying full price and left as quickly as possible.

We all agreed—never again. One star. My birthday dinner was ruined, but thankfully, Beavertail across the street came through and...

Great specials for each day of the week. We lucked out on Thursday when there’s a burger special of 10% off for each burger ordered up to 40%. So the four of us ordered burgers and everyone got 40%. There were 3 double burgers I think and a beef brisket sandwich which also qualifies for the special discount. Serving size was generous and our server was great, friendly helpful and polite. It’s pleasantly rustic inside with a beautiful mountain view and a great little patio outside. On a quiet street one block away from Main Street downtown. Canmore is pretty much all paid parking but it’s cheap. You pay by the 2 hour slot up to all day, and your license plate is in the system so you can move to other parking spots in Canmore within the hours you have paid for. Weekday ramp seasons are great times to visit Canmore as traffic density on Hwy 1 is normally pretty low making the drive from Calgary enjoyable for drivers and passengers. Downtown Canmore is pleasantly quiet with plenty of room for the visitors. Parking on Main Street was pretty much full but there were plenty of parking spots on side streets and there are quite a few surface lots a short walk from downtown. Also for those with handicap parking permits a good number of spots are available on Main Street. The buildings are attractive and whenever you look up there are beautiful mountains all around. There’s also a bus service that connects with Banff making it easy to take in some of the beautiful places in the...

1883 has been our go-to for several years. We're not often in Canmore but this has been our spot any time we are there.

We stopped in tonight - it was busy of course; Folk Fest and Rain - and were seated quickly as there were just two of us. We seated at the bar near the kitchen doors and could watch the bustle back there. Pleasant and quieter than at the tables. Great staff as usual.

Food seemed to be coming out quickly despite how busy it was. I noticed what I thought was our order come out, but it went to the south end of the bar. A few minutes later, it was clear our order had been delivered to the wrong party.

It didn't take long to get it sorted, but as it was busy, we'd already had a bit of a wait. This mis-delivery added 15 more minutes to that wait.

I was disappointed, as the other table got a free order of fish and chips - and we'd two servings of fish as well - as they'd already dug into it, so I hoped perhaps part of our order would be comped for the mix up and the wait. However, that wasn't offered. I also noticed the truffle fries were missing a fairly essential part, being the truffle oil.

The fish was nice when we got it and the fries were otherwise fine - just costly for a plate of 'naked' fries.

We like this spot but this night was a bit...

Tavern 1883 was our first stop in Canmore & it certainly made a great first impression! From the cozy atmosphere, amazing food & friendly staff - we instantly felt welcomed & excited to explore more. My partner got the Tavern burger & was recommended the truffle oil parm fries to try & we are so glad because they were a favourite! The shaved Parmesan was delicious and more than a step above the powdered parm that is typical at restaurants. This is the real deal! Fresh, high quality food. I’ll admit, I snuck more than a few off their plate. They also raved about the burger for the rest of the trip, the flavourful, juiciness was certainly memorable. I got the truffle oil smoked Montreal meat poutine & it was incredible, the cheese curds were nice & squeaky, topped with fresh gravy - the highest of Canadian poutine standards :) The menu takes food everyone enjoys, such as burgers and poutine, and elevates it with interesting ingredients that take it from soul food to fine dining! There are even fun events like open mic nights, unfortunately we had to leave before we could check those out but they are definitely a must for the next time we visit Canmore. We look forward to coming back.

Was looking for a place last minute to watch the Euro Cup finals, and they were able to accommodate our group of six. It’s not a sports bar and not all of the TVs had working audio but it got the job done. We arrived around 1pm but noticed that they have 40% off all food and drink from 2-4pm (Sunday to Thursday). We ordered some truffle parm fries to start but they had no issue with us waiting until 2pm to put in the rest of our food and drink orders which we noticed most other groups doing as well. Truffle parm fries which were great and had a strong truffle flavour. The pork tacos were quite good, as well as the Canadian bison burger (which wasn’t too gamey). The summer berry salad and chicken and corn soup were nice as well. Overall portion sizes were quite large. I also got the Italian beermosa which was strong and refreshing. Ambiance is rustic and casual, they have a nice patio as well. Service was efficient and polite although not the warmest. Despite most diners putting in their food orders all at the same time, our dishes came out quickly.

I stopped by Tavern 1883 hoping for a good meal, but unfortunately, the service just wasn’t it. My server didn’t introduce herself, barely looked at me, and honestly seemed uninterested from the start. She gave me water and took my order with a blank expression—no energy, no warmth. I always try to be friendly as a guest, but it felt one-sided the entire time. She didn’t check on me once after taking my order. The only person who came by was the food runner. Meanwhile, I watched her checking in on other tables beside me, so it’s not like she was too busy to notice. I needed more water, no one came. Empty plates stayed on my table the entire time. I sat there waiting for the bill while she was chatting it up with coworkers behind the bar. The food? It was fine. The fish were decent, but the fries were forgettable. What really put me off though was the note on the receipt that said, “Pay your server if you received good service.” Safe to say, I didn’t tip. I believe in tipping for good service—but that’s just it: you have to actually provide service.
