The tour itself was fine enough but getting there took WAY too long and that really put a damper on the day. The tour ended up taking all but two hours of our port time though it was only supposed to last a few hours. We had to take a tender to the port which was a bit inconvenient to begin with then once at port (you have to find the correct signage which is confusing as there are several white tents) there was a long, crowded wait under the hot tent. Not sure why it took so long but once we were finally on the bus we were told again that we would have to wait, this time for "7 minutes". This wait turned out to be around half an hour. The tour guide joked that she couldn't drive but that made some of us laugh nervously. When we finally got going there was another wait on the boat ride to the 3 snorkeling stops. The first stop took the longest and was the only stop where we actually snorkeled. (The listing seems to mention snorkeling at all three stops) the second stop was stingray city and that seemed to drag on too long as each group stopped to take photos with the stingrays.(you get a cute kiss and a "massage " photo) this stop felt like a crowded zoo imo. The stingrays seem comfortable being manhandled, apparently but I'm not sure how good it is for them to be held and handled all day, I don't know much about stingrays but it doesn't seem natural for the guides to be holding them in place for an hour as they try to swim away. The last stop was a quick stop at starfish point where you can touch the starfish (as long as you don't bring them out of the water). There were two beefy looking guards standing by with their arms crossed to make sure that didn't happen. I felt that the tour dragged on too long and many others were complaining about wanting to return to the ship. Make sure you eat plenty beforehand and buy some snacks at the shops. I had eaten a big breakfast and a coconut cake but felt famished as the tour went on. We finally got back 4 minutes before the last tender of the day left. Yes, we had just 4 minutes before the ship would have departed without us. Shockingly, someone mentioned that a member of their group had been in the tour van with our original driver and she had hit another car, making them even more late to the port! Guess she wasn't joking about not being able to drive after all. Overall I think this is a good tour that could benefit from better organization and time management. The guides were great but the event did not flow at all and the amount of downtime we had made the day drag on SO long by the time we were done we were starving and exhausted and had no time left to explore the port. Hopefully they can improve on...
Read moreMy sister, her fiance, and I took the Stingray City Tour for $65 each. The tour was supposed to include feeding the stingrays and about 45 min to one hour with the stingrays and 30 min of snorkel time.
We have done stingray feeding tours before and they have been excellent. The tour guides normally give you dead fish or squid and you hand feed the stingrays. The stingrays smell the food and come right up to you.
We were all very disappointed to discover that Captain Lee from Stingray City tours was not prepared and had no food for us to feed to the stingrays. He also had trouble parking the boat, so the entire stingray experience was only about 25 minutes. Captain Lee caught a stingray and let us kiss it, pet it, and hold it, but the stingrays would not approach us because we had no food to give them. All the other tours at the sandbar had food for their guests to give to the stingrays so this was very disappointing.
We then went to the snorkeling spot. It was a nice spot, but we were only given 15 minutes! We are experienced snorkelers but many on the boat were not. No explanation was given about how to put of finds, mark, and tube. All masks (child and adult) were mixed in one barrel and it was complete chaos on the boat as novice snorkelers put on their fins and masks still on the boat making it difficult to walk around them and for them to get in the water.
The tour was just very disorganized and both the stingray feeding aspect and the amount of time we would have were misrepresented.
We could not even ask the vendor for a refund, because by the time we got back, the vendor had already cleared the cruise ship terminal and was nowhere...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I did the $49 morning excursion on a huge Catamaran, very spacious with snacks and bar. We set out at 8:30AM and began our adventure. The ships crew was extremely pleasant and helpful, they made the trip that more enjoyable. We made our way to the stingrays and were then given the rules and how to use the snorkels. After laying anchor we headed to the shallow clear waters and were greeted by stingrays galore, they were everywhere. We took turns holding them and kissing them while they took pictures. Afterwards we set sail again for the barrier reefs for more snorkeling and checking out all the fishes and of course the beautiful corals. We then enjoy some cool drinks and made our way back to dock. This was such a wonderful morning made of fond memories that will last a lifetime. The staff at Red Sail were the best, they made...
