(Unfortunately this is the lowest score I have ever given) Me and a friend went on this tour expecting like most free tours or tip tours that it would be a fun and interesting experience around the city. The issues really started from the first moment as the guide Camilo within a few moments spoke about how much tip you should give he said between ($10-$20) for a 2 hour tour. For me this is crazy to tip a guide $20 each. First of all in a country where the average wage is $500 per month he would have earned $400 for 2.30h this is crazy. Now he did speak about history but also about how American influence had messed with the Chilean economy in the past and those influences are still in society today that the people are protesting to change and for someone whom promotes socialism it seems very hypocritical that they would ask for so much in tips.
Now I understand that I was only suggested but it’s very awkward at the start of the tour I would recommend that the company does not offer to say any amount and let the people decided. For the quality and length of the tour I would only give $5 as we had over 20 people in the group and he would have earned $100 that is more than...
Read moreWe did a private tour today with Tours for Tips. When we showed up to the meeting point, there was nobody there to meet us. We had trouble with our cell phone, so we found a friendly woman nearby who let us call the company. They said there was a problem and they would be there shortly. Antonio showed up as promised. He said the guide was sick and couldn't come, but another guide would come within 2 to 3 hours. He offered to take us to a coffee shop which we agreed to do. We enjoyed some empenadas and some coffee while Antonio got word that Joe would show up in about 45 minutes. In the meantime, Antonio comped our meal - a kind gesture that was totally unnecessary. When Joe arrived we were just finishing our meal. He was incredibly knowledgeable and personable. We learned a great deal about Santiago and thoroughly enjoyed the tour. When it ended Joe requested an Uber for us (as our phone was still not working), and we paid him cash to cover it. This tour was outstanding and the efforts made by Antonio and Joe to help us out turned a challenging day into a wonderful day. Can't say enough positive about Tours for Tips. Will...
Read moreWe did the 3pm city highlights tour in Santiago. We weren't sure what to expect of this tour and only had one day in Santiago, but decided it could be a good way to see some of the highlights and learn the history - we were right! Our 'Wally' was super knowledgable about the city and its history, giving us a thorough and interesting breakdown of Chile's recent history through our stops in the city. He was also an artist, so had some great insights into the various street art and murals we saw. This was a great choice for our one-day in the city, I feel like we got a lot more out of it than if we had just walked around ourselves, and it was nice that it ended up in a cool neighborhood with great restaurants for us to grab dinner. Highly recommend this to anyone interested in getting more insight into the city as...
