The Cotai Strip Cable Car, known as the Wynn Palace SkyCab, offers a short but memorable ride over the Performance Lake right in front of the Wynn Palace in Macau. We tried it during our visit, curious to see if it was worth the attention it gets. It is not the kind of extensive cable car ride you might find in places like Hong Kong, but it definitely adds something playful and unique to the area.
The cabins are fully enclosed, air-conditioned and spacious, with large windows providing excellent views of the Cotai skyline and surrounding hotels. As the cable car glides over the lake, you get a great perspective of the golden facade of Wynn Palace on one side and properties like MGM Cotai and Grand Lisboa Palace on the other. The fountains on the lake below are the highlight, especially when they are performing their water and light show.
We went in the early evening, just as the fountain show started, and the timing could not have been better. Watching the fountains from above while the lights reflected on the water and the sun was setting made the experience feel much more special. The whole scene with the lake, the surrounding hotels and the skyline gradually lighting up as night fell is something worth seeing.
The ride itself is very short, lasting only a few minutes in each direction, so it is more of a novelty than a real sightseeing tour. Still, it was completely free for everyone when we were there, which made it an easy decision to try. Even though the ride is short, it offers a different perspective of Cotai and a calm moment above the busy streets below.
If you are nearby, it is worth giving it a go, especially if you can time your ride to coincide with the fountain shows that run regularly in the evenings. It is not a major attraction in itself, but it adds something fun to an evening walk along the Cotai Strip and gives you a chance to see the area from above. The short ride and great views make it a small but pleasant part of...
Read moreSkyCab is now free to use at Wynn Palace on the Cotai Strip. When this attraction opened a few years ago tickets were MOP100 per person. Now it is completely freefor all who want to enter or leave Wynn Palace.
The cable car runs from 10am to midnight daily and is only closed when weather permits them from operating. Queues are never that long. We recently waited less than 3 minutes to board a cable car for our rides in and and out of Wynn Palace.
The ride lasts just a few minutes and circles the large artificial lake in front of the property. If you time your ride just right, you can also watch the Performance Lake fountain show while you are enjoying a cable car ride.
The cable cars are designed to hold up to six people but there are a fair number available so you'll likely be able to enjoy with a smaller party. Rides during the day are fun but we prefer riding at night when the Wynn Palace is lit up and the fountain show is more impressive.
Overall, now that they have scrapped the MOP100 ride ticket, SkyCab has quickly become one of the very best free attractions in Macau, something fun for individuals, couples, families and friends to enjoy when exploring the...
