The Goldfish Street is the most peculiar of the various street markets found in Mongkok. It is located along Tung Choi Street between Nullah Road (north) and Bute Street (south) and includes two blocks lined by shops, mostly selling aquariums, equipment, feed and all manner of tropical and exotic fish and other aquatic life. Here you will find some fantastic fish specimen. You will also find as many curious browsers as serious buyers. Local residents and foreign visitors alike enjoy seeing the fish, crabs, shrimp as well as turtles, frogs and other aquatic pets available at the shops along Tung Choi Street. There are a couple of exotic shops as well located within some of the buildings where you can see rhino beetles, emperor scorpions and more creepy-crawly pet types. There are also a couple traditional pet shops with kittens, puppies, rabbits and the likes. Note: A fair number of the shopkeepers don't want you to take pictures so do look for the 'No Picture' signs and try to respect their wishes before snapping away. Plenty other shopkeepers don't mind so needless to worry about taking enough photos during your visit. If you are unsure, best to just see what the locals are doing. If they are taking pictures, then feel free to do the same. Or just ask the shop staff and they will kindly let you know if its ok. Note: Shops on the Goldfish Street get a late start but stay open late. If you try visiting during the morning, you'll catch many shops closed so best to target this particular market in the early afternoon or later. Note: The Goldfish Market is one of several interesting markets in Mongkok that you might want to visit. It runs parallel to the Fa Yuen Street market, which then extends north to the Flower Market and Bird Market. To the south of Goldfish Street, past Argyle Street, you will find the famous Ladies Market and nearby Sneaker Street as well. Collectively, these make for several hours of interesting street market sightseeing in Mongkok.

OK, let me try to explain why I only have given 3 stars. First in all I was amazed how the people are fascinated about the way they look at the fishes and how they take response of having fishes. All the aquarium and plastic bags filled with little water with one or two fishes in it. Seeing all those sweet water fishes I could believe that they are from fish farms. So far so good. But as seeing the saltwater shops I saw fishes in many shapes and sizes what are not from fishing farms. Also seeing all kind of big living coral I hardly can believe that they where not taken from the coral reef, and for me that is definitely not OK. I saw many big dead corals for aquarium in perfect shape. That people think it is nice to have a coral reef in the living room even when when this means to destroy the environment and nature, this should be prevented. Also in this area there are some animal shops selling turtles in every size you need or want. Hardly to believe that some of the 50 year's or older ones have been grown up in farms!! Snakes, Lizards and all sorts of animals you can buy there. PS. I am posting this not to judge over anyone, but maybe looking at this place a little bit self-critical can help to safe our environment and nature.

🐠 Goldfish Market @ Mongkok – Beautiful, Unique, and Thought-Provoking 🇭🇰 Strolling through Goldfish Market on Tung Choi Street North was a mesmerising experience. The street is lined with pet and aquarium shops on both sides, showcasing a huge variety of colorful fish, some we had never seen before. Rows of fish displayed in plastic bags, glowing under the lights, made it feel like walking through a living street-side aquarium. But while the sight was beautiful and unique, it also felt poignant. seeing so many fish trapped in tiny bags was a subtle reminder of urban life in Hong Kong, where space is limited and people live in tight quarters. The contrast made the visit not just visually striking, but emotionally reflective. It’s a fascinating, one-of-a-kind stop in Mongkok—captivating, vibrant, and layered with meaning.

Goldfish Market in HK has indeed earned the reputation from its name. A must visit place for all tourists and even the locals as one will be surprised (myself too) with the variety of fishes U can see whereby some of it are so rare or perhaps in other words, never even seen the species before. U can easily take an MTR and alight at the Prince Station, afterwhich there will be friendly signboard telling U the entrance and direction to exit from the station. As for the public buses,i am only familiar with bus number E21A from where i stay (Carribean Coast) and than alight just in front of the Mongkok Police Station and take about 10 minutes walk to location. One will never be bore when U are at the Goldfish Market as there are many different retail shops to look at as well as great choices of eatery outlets to fill uo ur stomachs or a short rest along the way. Interestingly, along the Goldfish Market,U will also able to see stretches of Pets shops on both sides of the road. For those who prefer to shops in airconditioned enviroment, there are also a number of shopping malls nearby within walking distances such as Langham Place and Moko and many more. Happy sightseeing and shopping to...
