One thing I will say, unless you need to, I would avoid going on the weekend as lines are long and you will wait ages. I have been to Hong Kong many times and trust me, the one time I went on a Sunday, I turned back! On a Monday morning, I was on the cable car in under twenty minutes. There was a line, but it wasn't too long at all and it moved quickly. You can purchase a ticket in advance online or upon entering the cable car. Just to note, purchasing the ticket in advance does not make you have priority access and you still have to line up as normal (unless you purchase the Private Cabin ticket option). I got a Standard Cabin ticket. The other option is Crystal or you can do one way of Crystal and one way Standard. Just check online. I am not sure if the ticket is cheaper online. There was some sort of discount on the Monday, when I purchased my ticket upon entering. Well managed, the line moves reasonably quickly. The ride to Lantau Island is stunning. Takes around twenty-five minutes each way. The scenery is breathtaking. If you are afraid of heights, you may struggle a little. It really is a lovely and relaxing journey. When you get into the cable car, a professional photographer will take your photograph and if you want to purchase the photograph, you can do this at the other side. The cable car connects Tung Chung and Ngong Ping on Lantau Island. The Tung Chung Cable Car Terminal is adjacent to Tung Chung MTR. Clearly signposted, you can't miss it. Literally a few minutes walk. You can also take the bus if you are on a budget. I would highly recommend if you can, to take...

Total Rating: 5 Star Cable Car

Wonderful cable car system! Although there were a few incidents when it opened (which resulted it into a new management company), I really loved the ride! The cars were big and had large glass windows and seating was comfortable and the whole ride was really smooth, no shakes at all. My friend and I wanted to stay on the car for 24 hours! There were no queues, from collecting the ticket to boarding and departing only took at most half a minute. Compared with the Ocean Park Cable Car, this one is way better. That Ocean Park one was really shaky, so shaky that it made me bounce up and down and the windows there were always open, here they were always closed, but there are air vents, which I am not really fond of (although it was really cool, I came in July).

The only thing I would suggest it to improve is to add air conditioning system, it would make the car cooler during the summer time, they can switch it off during the winter or turn on a heater.

This is an experience you must have when you visit Hong Kong. There are several places where you can experience riding a cable car but only here can you experience glass bottomed floors so you can literally see how high up you really are. Be prepared to queue up though because the lines can get pretty long on peak seasons. Not for the faint of heart or those with fears of heights. This ride will let to experience flying without actually flying. Seeing nothing below your feet but air and the ground oh so far away is quite an unforgettable experience. The destination is pretty far so seeing more of the sights around you can get you mind off of the long ride. You can also see hikers who opted to go the more challenging route of hiking all the way to there. There are paths provided that are paved as well as steps for areas you need to climb so it makes it just a little bit easier. Easier, I mean, for veteran hikers because traversing the entire area will definitely take more than a few hours. So, if you're feeling adventurous and would like to see some breathtaking sights, I highly recommend riding the clear-bottomed cable cars going to Ngong Ping.

We arrived around 4 p.m. without a reservation. The cable car station is a few meters from the Tung Chung metro station, and the bus station is right next to it. We thought the cable car fare was a bit steep compared to the bus, so we opted for the one-way ticket and will return on Bus 23 to get both perspectives. It was very crowded on a Saturday afternoon, but the line moved quickly. Eight people fit on each cable car, and about five compartments passed at once. We booked the standard cabin right there via TRIP with a small discount. They scan your QR code, and when you sit down, they take a photo that you can buy at the top at the end of the ride. There were clean restrooms. The service was always attentive. The view from the cable car is spectacular; it’s one of the longest, and you can see the Buddha right upon arrival. I don’t know if I would take the cable car again. I think it’s a good experience for a first timer
