Last month,I paid a visit to two places with fourth floor’s friends. The one is Mandarin's house(in Portuguese is Casa da Cheang),the other one is the place of the government of Macau.Because my major is CVE,I love to see the style and the structure of the buildings. The styles of the two places impressed me a lot. Firstly,I would like to say something about the Mandarin's house. As the picture shows, its style is simply but comfortable.Obviously, there is almost no celebrations in the passage——black and white color are filled in the picture. However, thanks to the simple colors, the green plant appropriately mixed in the passage to display a lively scene.Actually, the structure also makes contribution to create the cosy feeling in visitors’ hearts. The wide window and the pattern of the wooden furniture are aimed to get more light. But the other style is very different from the first one.Its colors show dynamic. And its color in everywhere show the idea to impress you through the impact of the color vision.Their styles are different, while they has the same aim of structure——to get more light. The different styles give people different feelings but the light is an important factor that we have to consider.Structure is a kind of art which always has important factors. When you catch it,the meaning that behind the art...
Read moreThe Mandarin House is one of the more impressive UNESCO World Heritage attractions in the Historic Centre of Macau. I enjoy visiting here during Chinese New Year (CNY), finding it particularly well decorated and festive at this time of year. In short, it is one of my favourite places to visit during the holiday season.
Located along Rua Padre Antonio, you will find the Mandarin House across from tiny Lilau Square. During the holiday season, the complex is decorated with many hanging red lanterns, orange mandarin shrubs, cherry blossom trees and other holiday decoration throughout. You will find it in the courtyard as well as within the many rooms of the Mandarin House.
Another thing that I enjoy about visits during CNY are the performances held here. We watched a lion dance at Mandarin House yesterday that was quite nice. Unlike the huge crowds which gather at Senado Square and outside A-Ma Temple, there are far few people visiting here for the CNY events and performances. This means you can get up close and take much nicer pictures with the lion dancers and their costumes.
Note: Refer to the MGTO What's On Guide for a schedule of Chinese New Year activities in order to find the right dates and times for CNY activity at Mandarin House if you intend to visit during this...
Read moreThe Mandarin's House was built in 1869 (eighth year of the reign of the Tongzhi Emperor) by Zheng Guanyin's father Zheng Wenrui. Zheng Guanying and his brothers gradually enlarged the complex since. It was built largely in Cantonese style but is noted for its fusion of western architectural elements.
In 1990s, the Zheng family gradually moved out and the house was then rented out. There were at once more than 300 tenants living inside the complex, resulting in poor living conditions. The house was 4,000 square meters. The house was badly damaged because of a fire, and it took eight years to fix the house.
The government overtook the complex in 2001. In 2005, the house was listed as part of the Historic Centre of Macau, a UNESCO World...
