The Wanda Reign on the Bund gets the highest marks for me. Where to begin? First, the location is incredible. It is right across the street from the Bund. It is also right across the street from a park and a very short walk to Yu Yuan Garden and Bazaar. So much beauty, good food and shopping. Next the rooms are very luxury, with all the appointments and comfort of a five star offering. Importantly, I would suggest reserving a room with a river view to make it even better. The Shanghai skyline from across the river is one of the best urban landscapes in the world, especially at night. If you don't follow my suggestion, take advantage of the indoor/outdoor roof deck bar on the 21st floor, which is a perfect place for a night cap. The skyline across the river stays lit until 11 pm. ||Another suggestion from our experience is to take advantage of the breakfast offering. We took breakfast with our reservation and this was also an excellent choice with both Chinese and Western deliciousness in abundance. This was a truly incredible way to start the day with temptations so strong that we ended being quite devoted to it even though we don't usually indulge in breakfast at home. | |Lastly, I would highlight a very attentive, capable and caring staff that really were of top quality, but also literally saved our trip. ||When we took an airport taxi from our hotel, I to my great horror, dropped my passport on the floor of the taxi, where it stayed after we were dropped off. We got in to the hotel and quickly realized this potentially catastrophic problem. We notified the front desk, which worked with security and the Concierge with only the knowledge that our cab was light blue and of course that we just arrived. The results were absolutely astonishing. The staff identified the taxi company within minutes, the driver confirmed finding the passport within 10 minutes and the passport was returned safely back at the hotel within 30 minutes. Instead of checking in to the hotel we left our bags, went out to dinner knowing all was well with the passport in transit. When we returned we were greeted by our Concierge and reunited with my passport. Crisis averted. || One important side note is that the Concierge post at this hotel is a standing one adjacent to the main entryway to the hotel, which is a little unusual, but very useful for going outside to insure your transportation leaving the hotel is well positioned to get you exactly where you want to be.||I want to personally express my gratitude with this review again to the Wanda Reign team from help making my family's stay in Shanghai such a wonderful adventure. We could not have...
Read moreCheck In – I arrived to an empty lobby around 2:00pm and invited to a sit-down check in. I was told the hotel was sold out (which checked out on the app) hence no upgrades were available but they will keep a look out if any better rooms will open up. |I also got a generic welcome letter listing the STARS boking benefit but that copy was strangely enough not for me to keep, but rather I was invited to take a picture of it before the staff took it away. really weird for a luxury hotel. ||Room – My Deluxe Room (45SqM), 1606, was very spacious indeed and had a generous corridor from the door, which should be plentiful enough even for 2pax.||Service – it was a mixed bag so here goes.||The best service of the property was actually from the Brasserie where the staff offered me to take some desserts and fruits from the buffet as they saw I only ordered an ala carte salad. On the second occasion, the manager proactively brought me a phone stand when he saw I was chilling on my phone. ||Room Change Issue||Remember the front desk who offered to look out for a better room? They called about 2hours later to say they found me a room with a better view and offered to help with my luggage for the change. So I repacked everything and was escorted to my new room which was the same room type which was smaller and configured slightly different and with a WORSE view. Long story short, by the time I got my previous room back, it was 4hours after stepping into the property. ||Random Security Incident||I had a scare on my first morning when my doorbell rang at close to 2am. I was startled awake but didn’t go to the door as I was unsure what was happening. I later heard a guy calling another pax to check if ‘his’ room number was indeed mine (NOT). It was such a spook for a solo lady traveller so I told the front desk the next morning and was told they’d check the cameras and update me. No one did. On my check out day, I asked the front desk again what’s happening to that update they promised me – I was told to add the property’s Guest Service Manager on Wechat and they’d reach out. 3 days later, no one did. It was only after I opened a case with Marriott Bonvoy on X that I got a call the day after from the Guest Service Manager. The conclusion was that they offered a Suite upgrade on my next stay and 8,000 points as compensation.||Full details in my blog but based on my experience, I cannot recommend the property amongst all other Bonvoy choices. ||[Full review on Satu...
Read moreEvery Chinese New Year coincides with my mother’s birthday, so staying in a hotel near the Bund has become her unwavering choice. From the North Bund, Suzhou River, all the way from Chen Yi Plaza to this time near Yu Garden, you can almost stay in luxury (or five-star) hotels along the route. I asked my mother what she thought of the Ruihua Hotel. She said that although it is not a C-level place for sightseeing on the Bund, the deluxe Bund room can already overlook the entire Wanguo Building Group and Lujiazui, and the view can be said to be excellent. Hotel bedding and pillows also meet the positioning of comfort. As for breakfast, the dishes are not rich, but they have everything you need. Freshly baked Western-style bread is more recommended (nut tarts and pistachio records are especially not recommended😂) There is nothing else to complain about. Notes for birthdays and anniversaries are all arranged and prepared🍰, thank you!The room is clean, no smell, moderate air conditioning, no floor heating. This room type has a massage chair. In terms of service, the service did not drop during the Chinese New Year. The response and feedback from welcome to check-in to room service were very good. The leadership and etiquette of breakfast, as well as the closing were also prompt (one day I got up from breakfast to get the second one) Wow, the tables in front of us have been sorted😅)Although the gym and swimming pool are not large in size, they are fully functional and usable! The receptionist and pool lifeguard on the second floor are also very welcoming. The geographical location, although it is not a C-position hotel on the Bund, but within a 15-minute walk, you can get close to the C-position photo spot on the Bund. I tried it that day. It took about half an hour to walk from the peninsula to the hotel (slowly), for reference.Nearby attractions are very close to Yu Garden and Chenghuang Temple. Along the way, you can take Fangbang Middle Road. There used to be Cat Street, but now it has become Flower Street. You can also take photos. For dining nearby, the nearest one (actually adjacent to the hotel, but you have to go out. I heard you can also take b1 but it is not very ventilated) BFC can be used as a reference. We went to the Bund Yuan for a few days to eat. In the elevator, I also saw a customer ordering takeout and having it...
