The Inclined Elevator (Elevador Inclinado da Colina da Taipa Grande) is a fun free attraction located on the southwest side of the small mountain just next to Taipa Village. Here you can take a short, picturesque ride up the mountainside to the Grand Taipa Viewing Platform from 6am to 8pm daily.
Prior to the inclined elevator opening in October 2017, visitors had to scale a short but rather steep climb from the start of the Grand Taipa Trail which is right next to the lift station. However, now you can simply take a quick 45 second ride up to the viewing platform to enjoy excellent panoramic views and to to start your hike.
There are two lifts which operate separately. They function just like your normal building lifts but instead of going straight up and down, they move at a 45 degree angle up the mountainside on a funicular like track.
The lower station includes a bridge over Estrada Gov. Nobre de Carvalho, making it convenient to approach from the nearby Taipa Houses Museum and rural area around Dra. Laurinda M. Esparteiro Garden. From the platform at this lower station, you can enter either of the two lifts (free to use) and ride up to the viewing platform.
The upper station operates in the same manner as the lower station. Simply push the lift button which will call one of the two upward. Once the doors open, enter and ride down to the lower station before exiting the station and continuing onward with other intended sightseeing endeavours.
Note, the landscape views are fun to see as you ascend and descend the mountainside during your ride. Further, from the nearby Viewing Platform, you can watch the two lifts going up and down quite well. This is interesting to see as well.
In the end, the Inclined Elevator is fun, free, quick to use and a neat part of your visit to the Grand Taipa Viewing Platform and hiking trails. It is something that can be particularly enjoyable for families looking for child-friendly things to do around Taipa and the...
