After seeing several recommendations to Seng Cheong online, my family and I decided to pop by on our one-day visit to Macau. We ordered the Deep Fried Frog Legs and the Crab Congee; though the Congee was okay (I've definitely had better) the Frog Legs weren't great.
My biggest complaint, however, is with the service. If it had been good, the restaurant may have earned three or four stars from me, but alas, the restaurant suffers from the curse of being so popular to tourists that the staff can afford to be extremely rude.
My family comes from the US, and as it was our first visit to Macau, we were not entirely familiar with the coinage. When we went up to the counter to pay for our meal, we had the bills right but needed a bit of help figuring out the values of some of the coins. But when we asked, the lady at the counter ignored us, and when we repeated ourselves (we had thought she hadn't heard us properly), she told us tersely to figure it out ourselves and then pay her.
There hadn't been anyone in line behind us to pay, and our table had been upstairs and already cleaned, so we stood at the counter to sort out our coins. We thought we had the right amount of money to pay after scraping together some small-value coins, and when we asked the lady to check that we had enough, she took one look at the small-value coins and said that she didn't want those.
I'll repeat that: the lady at the counter would not take our small-value coins and only wanted bills and larger-value coins.
At this point, we're exasperated, since we're pretty sure we have the right amount of money but she won't take it, and we don't have any other Macau currency to use. The lady then really angrily tells us to just give her HKD (a lot of places in Macau take HKD due to the near-one exchange rate in favor of Macau) instead of our perfectly fine Macau currency. I'm pretty sure she ended up taking more than our meal actually cost because she pretty much just grabbed our cash.
We complained about this to her and said that she might want to work on her attitude (probably our bad, but we were really pissed off at this point), and she just retorted that business was so good that she didn't care. This is not the sort of way staff should ever behave in restaurants.

Read moreI heard about this shop's famous crab congee so I came from oversea to Macau to try it. Tonight this is my second time I tried this shop, the first encounter was exquisite and it was busy. I ordered a small portion of crab congee, half steamed chicken wrapped in palm leaves was flavourful and the fried squid balls were crunchy. I thought that the dishes would be like the first time but tonight at 8:30pm I ordered the same dishes, just about to sit down the stool the crab congee immediately came. If the shop was really busy, the following critiques would not be posted but it was not.The first encounter took a half hour delay for the congee but it was good . Today, the crab congee was cold and we request a reheating. The waiters listened to our request but the chef was very rude saying that he had already reheated the congee. Even after the reheating, the congee was still cold but I let it go. There were only 4 crab pieces but we ordered the large portion so there should be a whole crab. Even the crab shell was missing. The steamed chicken did not have the whole chicken which, we requested. Each pieces did not correlate to the whole chicken. The chicken feet skin was not removed which is commonly be unclean. The squid balls looks like it was cooked overnight and it was not crunchy. We also ordered boiled pig liver, intestines and kidney but we only received intestines and kidney only and it was also cold. Overall, except the broccoli dish , every dish was cold and the kitchen staff were extremely rude. Everyone who want to eat at this shop, make sure that the shop is busy which reflect the quality...
Read moreMy recent visit left me sorely disappointed. Once renowned for its exquisite taste reminiscent of the sea, the dish fell short of expectations this time. The freshness of the crab seemed compromised, lacking the vibrant flavour that once made it a standout. Although the grilled jumbo prawns were commendable, boasting above-average quality, they failed to elicit any remarkable excitement. Similarly, the fish dish could not make an impression, garnering indifference from the dining party. The apparent cleanliness issue was one of the most concerning aspects of the experience. Several members of our group suffered from diarrhoea post-meal, suggesting potential hygiene lapses in the kitchen. This raised severe concerns about food safety and sanitation standards at Seng Cheong. On a lighter note, I couldn't help but notice the quirky charm of the toilet tiles, which added a unique touch to the overall ambience. However, this small detail did little to compensate for the lacklustre...
