The wetlands in Taipa are located just below the Taipa Houses Museum and next to the Dra. Laurinda M. Esparteiro Garden. In the past this was the southern coastline of Taipa Village, hence the 20th-century Portuguese houses found here. After large scale land reclamations linked up Taipa and Coloane Islands to form the large land mass now referred to as Cotai, this area became a protected wetlands and ecological viewing zone.
The wetlands occupy a space of 4,500 square meters and is dominated by a small reservoir for which amphibians, insects (particularly dragon flies), birds and even freshwater fish now make their home. There is some light landscaping on the west side of the wetlands, near the exhibition area of Dra. Laurinda M. Esparteiro Garden and a long promenade on the north side just in front of the Taipa Houses Museum. From here you have very rewarding views of the wetlands as well as the Cotai Strip to the south.
