Rediscovering Macanese flavours in historic Taipa! Nestled in the historic part of Taipa, Casa Maquista holds a special place in my heart. As a child, I would take a walla walla from Macau to visit this charming area. The restaurant is situated in one of the old senior government houses lining the waterfront, making it a must-visit destination. However, what truly sets it apart is its dedication to serving traditional Macanese cuisine, a rarity in today's world where many of these dishes have either been altered beyond recognition or lost over generations. Their chefs have poured through historic records and interviewed locals familiar with the cuisine to bring back dishes that were thought to be gone. The restaurant's décor is enchanting, seamlessly blending elements that harken back to its days as the residence of the Taipa governor. The ambiance is both nostalgic and inviting. The food at Casa Maquista is exceptional, offering a refreshing departure from the more popular generic dishes found in many so-called Macanese cafés around town. Instead, the menu features intriguing and authentic dishes, with a Portuguese head chef ensuring that delectable Portuguese specialties are also on offer. The service at Casa Maquista is warm and friendly, contributing to a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience. I highly recommend ordering the combo meals to sample a variety of flavours. Personal highlights included the bacalhau with scrambled eggs, the baked duck rice, and the capela—a dish that was entirely new to me but instantly became...

A Culinary Journey at Casa Maquista

I had the privilege of being invited to a pre-opening tasting dinner at Casa Maquista, a charming restaurant nestled in a century-old mansion overlooking a tranquil lake in the wetlands. The Cotai Strip in the background added to the ambiance, creating an inviting space for a memorable dining experience.

The restaurant's decor was steeped in tradition, adorned with historical Macanese artifacts. Antique furniture, artwork, and other unique touches transported me to another era—a delightful blend of nostalgia and elegance.

But let's talk about the real star of the evening: the food. Casa Maquista specialises in Authentic Traditional Macanese Food, and it did not disappoint. Each dish was a revelation—a symphony of flavors that celebrated Macanese culinary heritage. I savored everything from hearty stews to delicate seafood preparations. The chefs clearly poured their hearts into every plate.

What truly stood out, though, was the service. It exceeded my expectations for a local Macau restaurant. Attentive waitstaff, knowledgeable about the menu, ensured that our dining experience was flawless.

As I left Casa Maquista, I couldn't help but feel grateful. Grateful for the opportunity to taste these time-honored recipes, grateful for the preservation of a dying culture. I eagerly await their full menu—I'm already planning my next visit.

In summary: Casa Maquista is a gem that combines history, flavor, and warmth....
