I stumbled upon El Sendero after seeing a sign about a fire show and decided to take a chance—so glad I did! Following the path led to a gorgeous beach area with cozy tables and bench seating, perfect for groups or just relaxing by the water.
The staff here are truly top-notch—friendly, attentive, and they treat you like family from the moment you arrive. I even got to meet the owner on my first night, which made the experience feel even more personal.
The food is outstanding. The octopus was perfectly cooked and full of flavor, and the oxtail was rich, tender, and absolutely worth coming back for. If you’re dining with friends, I highly recommend ordering one of the platters—it’s perfect for sharing with a group of four and gives everyone a taste of the kitchen’s best dishes. And if you enjoy a good cocktail, El Sendero makes the best mojito in all of Puerto Viejo—fresh, balanced, and dangerously good.
Between the live DJ, the mesmerizing fire show along the beach, and the stunning ocean view, El Sendero has the perfect mix of great food, atmosphere, and energy. I loved it so much I came back three nights in a row and even brought my mom and her friend the second night.
If you’re looking for incredible food, a fun vibe, and genuine hospitality, don’t miss this hidden gem....
Read moreGreat place! 10/10 must go! We came here 3 times during a 3 day vacation. 2 times to eat once to chill and have some beers in front of the ocean. The fish and lobster is the freshest you can get here! Caught daily by local fisherman. We saw them bringing in the catch of day. I Was surprised to find out many other places/ restaurants here sold tilapia which is not native to the waters. We had the best dinner of my life here. Whole fried snapper in a Caribbean coco sauce with rice and beans ( rice and beans cooked with coconut) and patacones( fried plantains) lobster in Caribbean sauce. The wait staff is the very attentive and warming. They checked on us multiple times. As well great location to come have some drinks by the water. They have loungers and benches to sit and have drinks and use ocean. Don’t...
Read moreThe setting was lovely and the food was great. However, beware the upsell and overpriced 2-for-1 cocktails. We were told it was 2-for-1 on G&Ts and although we couldn’t see them on the menu all other cocktails were 4,500-5,500 colones so we thought a G&T would be the same or less. However, when the bill came we had been charged 7,000. When we questioned it, we were told this was the price of one G&T. This seems hard to believe given our meals were 6,500 each. Definitely seems that we were taken advantage of, either in a lack of transparent communication upfront or overpricing...
