We love this part of Pula because it is special, because it is full of beautiful historic buildings and because the atmosphere is always, but always, extremely good. Piazza Foro has been the central town square since the founding of the Roman colony of Pole. The center of Roman cities consisted of forums dominated by temples and basilicas, and were the most important urban social space, a gathering place for citizens. The forum is located between the sea coast and the western slopes of the central city hill, on which Kaštel was later built. Its present appearance has been considerably altered, and only the Temple of Augustus bears witness to the square's ancient past. Originally, there were three temples on the Forum, the Temple of Augustus, the Temple of Diana, the Capitol and the Basilica, but today only one remains - the Temple of Augustus. It was built during the reign of Emperor Augustus between the ages of 4 and 14. The remains of the second temple are not visible today at all, while part of Diana's temple was used in the 13th century during the construction of the City Hall and can be seen from its rear. In addition to being religious, the Forum also served as an administrative center, with judicial and administrative offices. The tradition continued in the Middle Ages, when the City Hall was built, an excellent example of a mixture of architectural styles, primarily Romanesque and Renaissance, for the needs of the Venetian prince and providor. Today, the Forum is also a significant and lively space. Apart from being the seat of the administration, many guests gather here in catering facilities, but only during the summer, they are closed afterwards. Various concerts and other public performances are often held...

The main square in Pula, also known as Forum, is an impressive space that has been at the heart of the city for thousands of years. The square is surrounded by historical buildings and landmarks, including the Temple of Augustus, the Communal Palace, and the Roman Arch of the Sergii.

The Forum is a great place to start your exploration of Pula, as it provides a glimpse into the city's rich history and culture. The ancient Roman ruins are well-preserved and offer a glimpse into the city's past. You can spend hours wandering around the square, taking in the sights and sounds of this vibrant area.

The square is also home to many cafes, restaurants, and shops, making it a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. It's a great place to grab a coffee or a bite to eat while taking in the stunning architecture and people-watching.

Overall, the main square in Pula is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to the city. It's a beautiful and historic space that captures the essence of Pula's rich cultural heritage. If you're looking for a place to soak up the atmosphere and learn more about the city's past, then the Forum is the perfect...

The Pula Forum (Italian: Piazza Foro) has been the central city square since the establishment of the Roman colony of Pola. Its present appearance has changed significantly, and only the Temple of Augustus bears witness to the square's ancient past. The Forum was 80x30 meters in size. On its northern side stood three temples, while the other sides were lined with a colonnade, richly decorated with reliefs and statues of prominent figures of the time. From this covered section, one could enter religious, judicial, and administrative institutions. The Temple of Augustus, the remains of the "Diana" Temple, the Capitol, and the Basilica, integrated into the medieval Communal Palace, form the most significant architectural ensemble in the historical core of Pula, the only one preserved in Croatia and very...

The Temple of Augustus (Croatian: Augustov hram)[a] is a well-preserved[4] Roman temple in the city of Pula, Croatia (known in Roman times as Pola). Dedicated to the first Roman emperor, Augustus, it was probably built during the emperor's lifetime at some point between 27 BC and his death in AD 14.[5] It was built on a podium with a tetrastyle prostyle porch of Corinthian columns and measures about 8 by 17.3 m (26 by 57 ft), and 14 m (46 ft) high.[6] The richly decorated frieze is similar to that of a somewhat larger and more recent temple, the Maison Carrée in Nîmes, France.[7] These two temples are considered the two best complete Roman monuments outside Italy.[8]
